Default Check out opening credits for Cabin Fever and Flo's Farewell

I just finished watching the Alice DVD and noticed that in the opening credits for Cabin Fever and Flo's Farewell is that Marie is replaced by Tommy in the bathtub scene from Cabin Fever. Tommy wasn't on that episode, Alice said he went on a field trip.

I decided to go and check, and yep, there he was! They must have taped a different version of that episode, and then later re-filmed it with revisions.

I guess I'm wondering why you're blaming the DVD for this. When these episodes originally aired, Tommy replaced Marie in the opening, too. Check this out, from http://bigbob.com/alice/longalic.htm

"Note: This show has a scene with them all crouched in a bathtub, which is the same scene that is used on the opening, except the opening has Tommy in place of Marie."

This quote from the listed website was written before the DVD even came out, so it proves the opening had Tommy in it even on the original airings.

Yep...actually I wrote that years ago, and whoever owns bigbob.com ripped off all my pages and put them up on his site without my permission, claiming the "original owner of the pages was nowhere to be found"...even though my email address was always active. (sorry to sound bitter...just one of those things that always has annoyed me). Incidently, my guide (which I need to go thru and update) is at http://web.triton.net/o/ochs/guides/longalice.html
I can't say for sure that's how it originally aired though, I was going by the E! and TNN airings. I don't know if the DVD has them as originally aired (I haven't gotten a copy yet...I just ordered it from the local FYE...nobody else around here carried it)

I didn't blame the DVD for this..seeing this on the DVD reminded me that I seen this when Alice aired on E about 10 years ago and I was just wondering what was the story behind it.

My guess is that it originally aired that way. They may have shot the episode originally with Tommy joining them, put together the clip compilation for the opening sequence (and decided to add that one particular scene from that episode), then before the episode was to air they decided to reshoot it, leaving the scene in the opening credits different than the actual episode.

I think Tommy is in the opening simply because he is a member of the main cast, unlike Marie, who was only in a handful of episodes as a guest-star. I mean, who is shown in the opening who ISN'T a main cast member? No one. Replacing Marie with Tommy was a good idea, even though Tommy wasn't in the cabin scenes in "Cabin Fever."

If you want to get technical, there's a bunch of people in the background in the diner when Tommy rides in on the motorbike (from "Take Him, He's Yours") on the 3rd and 4th season openings Anyway, I think some of the pictures from the opening were outtakes too. On the 3rd season one, when Mel has the washcloth on his head, that's also from "Take Him, He's Yours", but it's not the same take as used in the episode. Same with Tommy coming in on the motorbike. It's a little different than on the 4th season opening. Also, some of the others I don't remember seeing at all, but maybe they were cut out of the syndicated/cable airings. (like Alice carrying the heavy tray, Tommy pulling the tablecloth from under the plates, him making a gag gesture after eating Mel's food)
