Here is the $$$ breakdown in the HOUSE HUNTERS episode...

Our conversation awhile back abt the familys financial status when they wanted to buy the house and who exactly worked...well they said it last night so here it is:

MICHAEL - Box boy at grocery store
THELMA - Worked at Willona's boutique
FLORIDA - School bus driver (we all knew that)
KEITH - Cab driver for the Windy City Cab Company (we all knew that too)
J.J. - Painted signs for a company downtown (we weren't sure if he worked at all)

Florida stated she is doing VERY WELL at her job as far as $$$ is concerned. J.J. was also doing VERY WELL at his painting signs job. He was doing so well, he bought a jumpsuit that cost $110.00. Florida stated she had over $400 in savings; J.J. had his money saved at home; Michael had money saved at home and so did Thelma and Keith obviously, since they were saving for a house.
So, in essence, the family was DOING VERY WELL, enough to be able to save money, each and every one of them. Not to mention still paying "low rent" since they lived in the projects.

Maybe eating oatmeal was the way to SAVE EVEN MORE $$$$$. But I am sure they ate other things at times, once in a while.

Good reporting. This answered all my questions about the money. I good theory about the oatmeal. It could be safe to say that it could be a family favorite. I know many college grads who still have a bowl of cereal and milk for dinner on occasions.

I know i can get by with a bowl of cereal in the morning. I don't need a hearty breakfast. And maybe, the Evans were just so used to it. But, like i said, it was one way to save money and also it was never stated that they ate it EVERY MORNING.

it does. the title of this episode was HOUSE HUNTERS...however, if you recall the thread you made where you stated why didn't the Evans' eat something else instead of oatmeal. It seemed when Flo came back, the CURSE OF FLO had struck and the family was back to eating oatmeal.
Also, there was a discrepancy as to who actually worked.
After that breakdown above, it seems that is one of the ways the family was able to save $$$$. that's all. nothing else, no big deal.
