Rob Halford may have high vocals, but he does not sing like a girl.

Both Black Sabbath and Judas Priest are from Birmingham, England, and are friends with each other. Technically, Black Sabbath never thought of themselves as "metal" but that they had created something uniquely heavy in the early 70's. By 1978, when punk supposedly replaced "heavy metal" which was perceived in England as an outdated "relic", Judas Priest willingly embraced the term METAL as a badge of honor, and their 1978 album 'Stained Class' is widely regarded as the first true metal album, not merely "heavy metal", with its more complex song structures, guitar technique, and production values.
In the early 70's, "heavy metal" was a rather derisive term by the music press, used to suggest that that music was "noisy" and "pretentious". Judas Priest proved otherwise. |
