Default No mention of James in Finale?

I might be wrong, but I don't remember any reference to James in the final episode. I thought that was stupid, since he was a major part of the show for 3 seasons. I'm not sure, but I don't think he was mentioned.

I think the entire last episode was too rushed and should have been planned better. You bring up a very good point about the non mentioning of James. I liked that everyone got what they wanted, but it should have been planned out a bit more.

Yeah They mentioned James in the last season so I see no reason why he shouldn't have been mentioned by one of the Evans

Everything seemed to happen within the last 5 minutes of the show. There was just no time to mention James.

The finale was so hastily thrown together and there was no mention of James. If you look at the production numbers on the episode guide, this episode was not the last produced. I guess they had to throw something together when they got word from the network that they are getting the ax.

Yeah, that would have been great. How many of us say that when something wonderful happens in our families and someone dear has already passed on?

I think Florida should have woken up in bed next to James and realized his death was...a dream!!

And there was no Penny and all the kids were there and they still...lived in the Ghetto.

Yeah, they did try to cram a lot into the half-hour finale - they must've found out at the last minute the show was going off the hair, hence the hastily-written exit. I loved how all of a sudden everyone's luck changed...at the same time!! Happily ever after!!

Yeah, right!

TIME CONSTRAINTS DR. THONG...TIME CONSTRAINTS...

Yeah, it would have been nice to see a three-parter for the finale...so not all the news was given at once!

On the other hand, at least they got a final episode. Welcome Back, Kotter was also cancelled in 1979 and never got to say goodbye, although Horshack did get married, which seemed to signal the onset of adulthood.

That happens to so many shows as production of the season usually ends in February or March and the network informs everyone of their status late April, early May. The worse scenarios is how the cast of Married with Children found out they were cancelled, everyone had called each other after they heard it on the radio, read it in the newspapers, etc.

I mentioned that in another thread of how they could have did a continuation over the last couple of episodes. It would have been nice to see Florida packing up in the last scene with the last box walking around recalling the earlier days (they could have used clips from previous seasons) walking around the empty apartment with everyone else gone. As she picks up the last box, she could have looked up towards the sky and said, 'James, I know your smiling now, after all these years of struggle, the Evans' have finally got a piece of the pie.' and walked out the apartment, then fade to black then the credits. The ending could have been done much better.

They did mention James several times in Season 6, but it would've been nice had they done so in the finale. I too would've liked them to space the finale out. For pete's sake - the wedding was a FOUR-PART episode!!

Exactly! We had a few of those four parters, it would have been nice to see it end nicely rather than rushed.

After watching last night's episode of Men In Trees (John Amos is one of the cast members), I think they should pull a Dallas and convieniently "forget" that James died, have a reunion show with a story about how James is dealing with being a widower after Florida's death. We could see where JJ, Thelma and Michael are at in their adult lives.

All memories of Carl would have to be wiped, but then again, he mysteriously vanished after season 4, never to return, his status left uncertain. Apparently, Florida left her ailing second husband behind in Arizona(?) and just left him there while she resumed her life in Chicago.
