It was about an asian kid (Ernie Reyes, Jr) who was a champ in karate who assisted this cop(Gil Gerad) in fighting crime. It came on Friday nights in 1986 around 9:00 or 9:30. It was a drama that lasted a half an hour. It lasted one season or less, it premeired the same night as "Sledge Hammer."

I remember that show. It's too bad the show only lasted a season.
I thought it was pretty good.

It lasted one season because ABC put it up against a Top Ten Show at the Time, on Fridays, "DALLAS"-lol |

That was a huge mistake on ABC's part. You can't compete with J.R.

....AND the pilot which aired on "THE DISNEY SUNDAY MOVIE" in the spring of 1986, called "The Last Electric Knight". ABC decided that title was too "stuffy", so they decided a snappier one {"SIDEKICKS"} would be a better choice. The problem was, the network promoted the series as a "comedy", which it certainly wasn't. It was a crime drama with warmth and comedy overtones...pairing it with "SLEDGE HAMMER!" wasn't such a great idea.

I loved Sidekicks as a kid!!! Wow- some serious martial arts action! Way cool! I'd so love to see this show again. But until I can find the actual episodes again, I'll have to settle for this to tide me over.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=gEgDqlFvdTo Check it out!!! The opening theme song video for Sidekicks in French!!!! (The theme song itself is still in English though) |
