Default Adam: Why, Why, Why??

I haven't seen Dynasty since its original run, but if memory serves, wasn't Adam ultimately proved to not be a blood Carrington??

Wasn't there a storyline in which Neal McVane found that the real Adam had died and that "Adam" was truly Michael Torrance after all?? And subsequently, he blackmailed "Adam," which led to him having a breakdown of sorts?

What killed me is that even when Blake and Alexis found out, they still accepted him as their son. Now, keep in mind, this is their "son" who at any given time, try to backstab them and take control of both Denver-Carrington and Colbyco??

He tried to kill Jeff, raped Kirby, attempted to rape Fallon in a flashback sequence and was an all around not-so-nice-guy.

Had I been Blake or Alexis, I would have written him off years before that incident and most definitely when I knew he wasn't truly a Carrington. That really stretched it for me, and this was from a show that I accepted a lot of stretches from.

Never really watched Dynasty, so I can't comment. I DO remember that the actor (Gordon Thomson) was also on Santa Barbara and Sunset Beach.

I believe you're right - the real Adam had died, and this was not him.

I recall Joan Collins tried to get someone else to play the role, as well. She thought Gordon Thompson was way too old to play Adam, since there was less than a twelve year difference between the two (Collins was born 5-23-33, Thompson was born 3-2-45). She thought the audience would think she was much older than her fifty years.

The producers hired Thompson anyway, and in one ep the writers mentioned he was kidnapped 25 years ago - when he was an infant. That made him younger (by about 12 years) and let it be believable (though he looked much older than 25).

Three year old thread gets a bump. Thanks.

I've been watching season three on DVD and it's a wonder they didn't kick him out of the family. Only his first season and he's committed rape and attempted murder. I guess "Adam" was making up for lost time.

In the reunion movie, rapist/victim (Kirby) got engaged!! By the way, Gordon Thomson was unavailable to play Adam in the reunion (he was under contract on the daytime soap Santa Barbara and was unable to get the time off to film the reunion show).

Yeah, that was disappointing. They got the original Steven back, but Fallon and Adam were played by the replacements.

I always hoped that they'd do a Dynasty reunion movie with Fallon, Steven and Adam played by the original actors. To have them all together would be a first.

When they did the retrospective a few years back, Gordon Thomson shook hands with Al Corley and said something like, "We finally meet. How long has it been, 25 years?"

It was a prime time special a few years back. No DVD release as of yet.

Just close your eyes when Linda Evans is on screen. She co-hosted the special with Joan Collins and all I can say is that Joan has a better plastic surgeon than Linda. I don't know if it was a bad face job or too many lip implants, but she didn't look good.

I haven't seen her as of late, but she can't look any worse than Joan Van Ark.

OMG - Joan Van Ark looks like a Picasso! The only one who has aged beautifully, with no work that I can detect, is Donna Mills - fabulous at 66.

Yes, the writers did explain that the real Adam Carrington had died and that "Adam" was only Michael Torrance . That entire situation was unnecessary and it didn't add anything to the show . Dynasty would have been much better if he had always been the one -- and -- only Adam Carrington .

The very first time I saw Gordon Thompson in the role of Michael Torrance / Adam Carrington, I thought his name was "John Forsythe Jr ." or something like that . I thought he looked that much like John Forsythe !
