I'm glad that lots of Bruce's fans replied to this article. It was mostly a good article, but they started out with the premise that Bruce isn't really an actor, but just a movie star, which is complete and utter rubbish! Glad lots of people said what a terrific actor he is!! To me, even if you haven't seen all of his movies, all you need to prove what a great actor he is are:
Moonlighting, Pulp Fiction, 12 Monkeys, Sixth Sense, Die Hard. They speak for themselves... Mul |

I know! At first I thought it said a bunch of crap, but then it turned around to prove what an extraordinary person/actor he is! And give him that Oscar already!

Funny, I didn't read this as negative as all. I think the author states what are some common things said about Bruce, but then goes on to disprove them.
I think the author points out the Bruce has taken some risks and made some smart choices with his career. Some of his best work is that which places him in ensemble casts. Look at 16 Blocks......his generosity as an actor works so well with Mos Def! Yes, he is a movie star...one who is down to earth and compassionate and plays that way on the screen. Bruce is a man of the people, the guy next door who made good.....correction, made GREAT! I don't think that saying he is a movie star necessarily says he is not a good actor.....I think it says more about success and level of accomplishment. Bruce just gets better and better. I like to think that his Oscar winning role is yet to come! |

Most of this article is postive, I agree, but the little comment grated on me a little "Yet Bruce Willis is not so much an actor as a remarkably resilient movie star." Yes he is a movie star, but he's an actor too! It's a little damning with faint praise for me, even tho the rest of the article is good.
I've always thought that Bruce would come into his own as he gets older too, he gets better and better as an actor with time. I remember being really impressed when I read about his attitude to acting as one of getting under the skin of the character, working out what makes them tick and motivates them, but he also realises that its an easy job compared to someone who digs all day or who carries heavy stuff up ladders. I can never be 100% correct that I interpret things in English the right way, and it could be that I'm sort of reading word by word. :P When I said it started off with crap, I meant the part where it said he could only do action, the public loves to hate him, and he kind of got famous even though noone believed in him, not even himself. Felt a notion of more luck than talent. Which WE all know isn't true... And the article was great in proving the statements wrong.
![]() This was just an explanation to what I meant. Loved the article and now I'll read it again! |
