he mentioned in the first episode he talked abt the YMCA and why it was cheaper to stay there. He went to an L.A. tech college to study being a chef. Sooooo, what did he do for a living?

as the series moved on he had odd jobs here and there. Not really any on the first two seasons though. When Jack tried to get a loan they said his father was to rich so maybe he got some from his parents?

That's what made the decision to let him movein so strange because he didn't have a job-lol So it did make it seem like they had other intentions besides him helping out with the rent in the beginning of the series

Janet told him, you will be responsible for payment of rent, the phone, etc. that's what made me ask the question.

I think that maybe through LA Tech, he was hired to do catering jobs? And we just never saw any of it happen? That's what I was always lead to believe.

Realistically, Jack would have been out on his ass for non-payment of rent and bills.

Sitcoms are full of shows with characters who either don't work or work at mysterious jobs that no one knows about or live in apartments and houses they couldn't possibly afford.

I think the apartment they had was actually one of the more realistic. It was pretty small and had just enough room for the three.

You don't get paid for being retired from the military.

The apartment was realistic...HOWEVER, the area is mighty expensive. Santa Monica is a beach town. They lived a hop,skip and a jump from the beach. Those apts. near the beach are very expensive. If the writers considered their apt. to be the cheapest, even that would be expensive.

For some reason I am thinking they paid around $300 a month. I don't know if that's from an episode or some other reason. If that is the amount, that IS NOT REALISTIC.

It's not supposed to be realistic...it's supposed to be TV.

After all, he was only in his 20's when the series started. Certainly, he wouldn't be entitled to any kind of pay.

The trio's rent WAS $300.00 when the Ropers were there. That wasn't unrealistic 25+ years ago.

For the Santa Monica area in the mid or late 70's that rent is NOT CORRECT. I have relatives that have lived in that area during the time when TC was being shown. In that time period they even joked abt the fact that Three's Company was full of s**t in regards to beach apts. or apts. near the Santa Monica beach area. You have Venice Beach, you have the pier with rides and many shops...the area is a haven for celebs. I was only 13 when TC first aired and even I knew that was LUDICROUS rent.
