Post A Lesson In Life And Friendship

I've had a wierd past 2 days and the lessons I've learned are too valuable not to pass on. The details aren't important, but a friendship is being patched up that I thought was long dead. If either of us would of spoke up and said what we felt a year and a half ago, it would never have spiraled out of control or neither of us would have felt the heartache that we felt. We both saw the situation completely different ways. A.L. and I gained a perspective on the situation that separated us and allowed us to work it out. I was already looking foward to getting back to school, but I'm looking foward to it even more because I have my friend back. Please, please remember that some friendships, no matter how much you think are dead, can be salvaged.

I'm glad you and your friend have sorted things out. It's not always that simple though. I had a bit of an issue with some friends of mine - we were best friends for over 5 years - there was a 'situation' and we hardly spoke for 12 months afterwards. When we eventually did try'n talk to each other it was the biggest disaster you could possibly imagine. I wish we'd never even tried to sort it all out.
There's definately something to be said for letting "sleeping dogs lie".

I agree with Mossop. Although Im glad that you were able to patch things up with ur friend. I had this friend for like 4 yrs. and there was this 'issue'. And we have tried to "make it all better" but it made things even worse.

I disagree. True friends are to hard to come by. You have to work to keep friendships alive. My friend and I live in two differant countrys but we are still friends.

Friendship is a plant that must be watered often.

It's great when things work out with friends but sometimes they just can't. I myself have lost my best friends just because we were growing up and we grew apart. We had different interests, different lifestyles, different everything. I've probably lost a good 20 friends due to it, including my online pals who were the best friends I ever had in my entire life. Now I only keep in touch with one. We just recently tried to get back in touch but it just didn't work.

Ah, but there's the rub. The thing you have to ask yourself is whether or not the person is a true friend.

I will spare you all the details, but suffice it to say, me and my "best friend" had a fight, and we didn't speak for awhile. About a year later we tried to patch things up, and it did not work at all. I finally realized that she was never a very good friend, she was controlling and unaccepting of the "real" me, only I had been too young and naive to realize it at the time.

Nowadays, of course, I would never make friends with a person like that in the first place.

Agreed Boots. I've had some pretty rotten "friends". But if you have the good sense it isn't that hard. The hard part is saying "Look, you can't be my friend anymore".

Glad to hear a happy ending, leslie!

Friends come and go. When you find a true one, hang onto that person! Only you can determine if that friend is a "true friend" or not.

I've gone through a few best friends in my life. The only one who has really been there, thick and thin, is my husband.

Yeah, I went through that whole bit too. Not fun, is it?

I agree with Max. True friends never leave you, althought they do get lost sometimes.

The hard thing is finding that true friend though. Once you find them, don't let them go, because they don't come around often.

That is some absolutely fantastic and useful advice. I hope you and your friend will forever be together.
