Default How rich were The Tates?

Last night I was watching the episode in which Elaine is kidnapped and the kidnappers demanded $100,000. The Campbells didn't have the money and planned on borrowing as much as they could from the bank and bargaining the kidnappers down to a more reasonable amount. This got me to thinking... If the Tates are so rich, why didn't it occur to The Campbells to borrow the money from them?

It could have been an oversight or pride. It might have been funny to have Danny and Burt pleading with Chester for the money and then having to pay it off in some goofy way.

So, how rich do you think the Tates were?

technically it wasnt Chester's money - it was Mary and Jessica's Daddy's money... and there was a LOT of it, with the exception of whatever Chester didn't lose.

I think the Tates we're millionairs. They have to be because Chester was out of a job for the last three seasons and they we're still able to afford everything that they wanted. The only thing I wonder about was that if that money belonged to their father how come Mary didn't get any of it, or at least alittle more of it?

Yes, I don't understand that either! Maybe Mary was cut off from the family fortune somehow.

You mean Jodie's father. Danny's father was Chester.

I don't think the Tates were millionaires. Comfortably rich was more like it.
They lived in a home that was big and fancy, but, not a mansion.

I think that their parents played favorites and Jessica was definitly their favorite. She got a house and the family fortune while their unspoken of brother Randolph got sent out of the country and Mary got nothing.

The Tates definitely lived in a very upscale neighborhood.

It's a bit of a mystery throughout the series. In season 4, while Jessica is in Malaguay, Chester tried to borrow money from Saunders. This might mean that Chester lost all his money in different business scandals and that Jessica keeps her part of the inheritance save from him. Mary probably spend her part of the inheritance because she has been married to husbands who were less better off than Chester in his heydays.

Regards from Spain
