Arrow All-Star game in Seattle

What does everyone think of the upcoming All Star game? I think Jo Torre snubbed alot of players in the AL. He put SEVEN of his own men on the team as reserves! I though Bobby V. would do something ridiculous like that, but not Torre. I can't believe Aaron Seale, Jeff Nelson, or Tim Hudson didn't make it! What's up with that? I'm sensing a bit of favortism from the Yankee manager.

Bernie WIlliams hasn't had a great year. He's even missed half of it from family incidents. He's just recently began swinging the bat well.

Jeter isn't having a great year by his standards, but I understand him making the team.

Petite has spend quit some time on the DL.

Posada is fair, but there are other good catchers out there who deserve the chance.

...Why did Torre snub the others who deserved the honor more?

There were also alot of snubs in the NL.

What does everyone else think of this...?

The whole way they have the game set up is a joke! Fine, let the managers of last years World Series teams get to manage to the team but DO NOT let them pick the reserves.. There is no way they can be unbiased. There's no way Joe Torre was going to pick Aaron Sele over Andy Pettite or Jeff Nelson over Mike Stanton (let's be honest Jeff Nelson and Torre did not get along especially well). Let some people with no ties to any teams pick the reserves.

The NL is equally troubling. It's no surprise Bobby Valentine snubbed Cliff Floyd who definitely has the numbers to be put on the team but Cliff Floyd calls him stupid or something and he doesn't have the guts to put him on the team. Greg Maddux probably deserved to be on the team also so maybe Bobby Valentine is trying to send a message to the Braves.. Let's be honest the Braves have owned the Mets for years, no different this year!

Arrow

Stanton put Torre in his place, and I'm glad someone did.

As for Floyd and Valentine, it's all a mess. There's two different stories, and there's no telling which one is right.
Maddux told Valentine to pick Burkett over himself. Now I really admire Maduxx for this act, but all it did was give Valentine an out of having to take more than one BRAVES. Valentine and Cox are not the best of friends as we all know.
Oh, and what's up with two outfielders going from the Dodgers? And THREE players from the last place Padres! Rob Nen from the Giants got snubbed as well. He has the most saves in the NL.

I think the rule that one player from each team has to be taken is a joke!

Someone affiliated with MLB and MLB only should pick the teams according to stats.

...It's just all messed up...

I think the All-Star game has a lot of problems with it. Here's some of my perceptions:

-The Cardinal's got what they deserved. Pujols/Morris deserve to be on it. Matheny might have been snubbed, but no way McGwire should have been picked. I was in St. Louis recently and had a chance to read the papers. There was a quote from McGwire who thought it was an atrocity that he was second in the voting when he had only played for a month. Which bring me to my second point...

-No more fan voting. Fans usually vote on their favorites (should Ripken be starting?) and not who the best players are. I don't vote for the All-Star team because I'm afraid I'll snub this one player who I know nothing about, but is having an awesome year.

-The quotes in the papers have been less then kind to Torre. He's a former Cardinal and a good person, so I won't speak ill of him, but it's obvious that favortism takes place when picking the All-Star team. No doubt about it. I'm not sure what the best way to pick the reserves (and starters) would be. Maybe a commission appointed by the commissioner?

-Yes, the one player per team rule must go.

-I like how Gwynn is being invited as a "special guest". It's the perfect way to honor a legend in his final year and I feel that tribute would be better then the election of Ripken to start 3rd (another problem with the fan-voting). Both players derserve to be at the all-star game, but there needs to be a special status created for these players in their twilight.

In other All-Star news, I have a hat from the game. My Dad was in Seattle a few weeks ago and brought it back for me!

i hate the yankees even more right now for this!! and Joe Torre too! there are players on the red sox that deserve to go to the All-Star game, like Tim Wakefield and Hideo Nomo(wht does a no-hitter and a 7-1 record suddenly mean nothing?) and if Pedro was healthy he should have gone and same with Nomar...Also I believe for a reserve catcher(if he was healthy) it should have been Jason Vartike(sp) over the Piscida guy~ i just am feed up with the whole AL all-stars chosen, go figure that one of the top teams in the east only has 1 player going~!

This will be the first all-star game I haven't watched since '95 (I was STILL mad about the whole strike thing at the time)
