Default Can history repeat itself?

It's been about 11 months since T.J. shut down the trading post because of infighting and bickering. After today's all-out wars, do I sense the 2nd annual shutdown coming?

In my opinion-=

There are so amny personalities on this baord, that fights/disagreements are bound to happen.
I expect that.
And that is what hopefully a moderator helps with.

To keep peace.

I do NOT understand a moderator form another area of the baord, coming into the discussion saying things as this entire board should be shut down-
Or that a member is useless.
I whole heartedly apologize to the members here- because honestly no one deserves to be talked to that way.

In the past, when I have had a problem with a member personally, I contact them first-
And then the moderator of that section to try to compromise and or find a resolve

I contacted BrainDamage personally with no reply- as well as seemingly the one user in particular he had a problem with.

I disagree with many things that were said and are said on this board-
But I try to do so politely, without insulting and adding name calling.
The English language is so vast it baffles me when people have no other alternative but to swear and insult each other.

If a user doesn't like another section of the baord, don't visit it.
If you don't liek a particular user, don't deal with him.
Seems simple enough to me.
But the concept is lost on others.

As with all the mediating I try to do with members, the one thing I have seen myself quoted on, is try to respect each others opinions.
And my opinion is that a moderator doesn't have to uphold to the same standards of a member here, they need to hold to a higher.

I do not expect any LESS from a moderator than I do from a member, and I actually received complaints OVER the moderator today which is a first for me in all the years I have moderated here.

I don't care WHAT disagreement people have, the engaging that was done today is ridiculous.

I am sorry that an example of somsone who is supposed to offer resolution, was actually part of it.
It looks bad for all moderators, and makes it hard to demand respect from members, when the moderators don't give it back.

I'm sorry to the board things were not handled how they should have been in my opinion.

Default disagreements

most of the disagreements are not personal
many comments are made in jest, and a lot of the "running feuds" of jabs, are all just friendly back and forth

even the disagreements tvresearcher had with many on the board today, were not personal and not ugly, just back and forth with some humor mixed in

we tease one another, we jest about tvresearchers "original airings only", we joke about how lilhave went to school with moses, we joke about lamonts weedwacker--- thats just good natured fun

but sometimes, even wellmeaning people get angry or upset and go too far, not a big deal, we just need to remember to act like adults!

To be honest I had no problems with most of the posts but Brain Damaged came over here to pick a fight and as a pack mentality we ganged up on him for picking on one of our own. It really was unprovoked and he had no business here in the first place as he offers nothing.

This is not the first time I have seen him over here stirring things up and it is really poor etiquette for a moderator to act like he does.

Like Joker said Harvey may be a crochety old man but he is OUR crochety old man.

As far as TJ shutting down the board I would be more worried when some members decide to tell him how to run things here and argue directly with him and/or Savage. For the most part we police ourselves but occasionally the overworked and undrappreciated Savage has to come in with the padlock and cool things down.

Default well

Well IN defense to both sides here.

I don't know how hard it is to run BD's area of the board.
And I am sure he is unfamiliar with several of the members here

There are many outspoken people on this board, and their views are understood by the majority of members here, becuase quite honestly we are used to each other-and understand the "body language"

But to others viewing in, it comes across as if we are an ornary bunch
Some of us come across intimidating, or even insutling
When to each other---we just have adjusted to one another.

It's a big board with a lot of areas-
Enough areas, that I find it hard to believe we can't co-exhist.

There are some people I don't like- I stay away from them
Peopel who I dont like - that email me, I disregard them
People who post I disgree with, I scan over it- and read other opinions.

Its a big world --your bound to not like, and disagree with others-
Not much you can do about that-
And this board proves as a perfect example-

Moderators do deserve respect-
But they do need to earn it-

Buit also we are human and we do lose our tempers, we do get sucked into arguements and we do make mistakes.

SO hopefully some anger has been vented and some opinons shared will get taken in, and thought about a little. And more importantly feelings, and the age old theory of if you have nothing nice to say .........you know the rest.

Seriously Brain Damaged does your mommy know you are up this late?

Was there an affirmitive action plan for moderators with an IQ less than that of a fish and you just happened to beat out the slug who applied for the job?

Roll out the Barrel here comes Brain Damaged

Good god I hope there is more than just one Mod on your forum because I can't see you running it any better than the crappy Yahoo forums out there. You come here an insult people because they disagree with you and/or TV Researcher, and then you do not take the hint that you are not wanted here. You did not bring anything as far as trading advice or experience here just your petty Kindergarten insults.

Go back to your board and start flame wars with someone you are smarter than (if there is someone) because you are overmatched and unwelcome here. Better yet I believe the counting thread has restarted on Chit Chit, they are only at 7 you should be able to get to 20 before it gets too hard for you (you can do it, just take your socks of and you get another 10).

Your wit slays me. Usually when someone says they are outwitted and outmatched, they are usually the ones getting their asses handed to them. Keep it up Lex. Cat woman can't save you.

Like Savage said you do not just get respect, you earn it. I expect no "saving" from Savage however I do respect her for putting up with the crap that goes on here (some of which may be caused by yours truly). If Savage told me to quit blasting you I would out of respect for the job she does as a moderator here.

You on the other hand have been emailed directly by Savage and asked politely to shut the hell up. As a mod you show no respect for the members here nor Savage as a moderator. I was thinking the a$$whoopin would make you go home and cry to mommy but I give you props for continuing to get back up when the TKO was called long ago. However you are beginning to bore me so perhaps when you can find the ammunition for your intellect gun we can resume the pleasantries. Until then ready Harvey's posts on Flame wars and maybe you can pick up a thing or 2.

Default wellllll

I don't think either one of you need 'saving'

You two can obviouslly take care of yourselves-

I did in fact ask several people to calm down, or back off a bit.
But if someone is getting brought up, more times than not, they will rise to defend themselves.

I haven't given any orders to anyone to stop- But I did close a lot of threads tonight in hopes that things would settle down-

I guess what one has to ask themselves, is what is the outcome they wish from their effort.

While the board may be vast - CartoonDvds hangs out HERE On this forum
Where as BrianDamage hangs out in other areas.

So you have to evaluate where you are arguing, as well as what.
(in my opinion)
if I went down to the Chit Chat section, and was in an arguement with one of their common members, I would probably have my tail handed to me.
Not knowing the users, or them knowing me.

Brian your obviously not happy with the members here, or dare I say how I run things here...which your entitled to-
I am sure your a good moderator.
But moderating on your section and my section are different.
And maybe the simple fact is you don't have to like the members here- becuase thankfully for you they aren't on your area
And they don't have to liek you- because you don't moderate here- and don't trade/interact with them.
Which is one of the benefits of having so many sections.
You two don't HAVE to get along-

All I can say is a vegetarian can bea funny and great guy- while he eats his salad
And a carnivore can love a steak and be quite happy, and well liked.

Until they have to dine together.

Maybe you two have just two completely different personalities, and should just agree to disagree.

Because I highly doubt you will see eye to eye.
