Default My suggestion to New Traders just starting out and want to expand their collection

Those of you who have small trading collections and see things you want on other traders collection but you can;t get them because of your small collection, try this

Just start recording everything on television like Morning Talk shows, Soap Operas, Late Night Talk Shows on a Daily basis and you may see someone who missed a ep of one of those shows and may need a copy and that's how you can start expanding. Just record everthing that on cable or Network TV and Believe it will expand your collection.

The one downfall to this approach is that you may end up with a bunch of shows no one wants, including you.

Wink .....

well i dont know about taping stuff like that b/c 99% of it will be in the junk pile

WHAT I WOULD do is to look to see what your LOCAL UHF channels are airing
they often have shows that cost less to air, but are harder to find

some areas now have quincy, eight is enough, diffrent strokes, facts of life, kojak, flipper, etc etc etc

rarer shows that you could tape and make a set of

or shows like BERNIE MAC, WAYANS BROTHERS, NYPD BLUE, L.A. LAW, FALCON CREST, etc etc that are commonly syndicated but noone seems to have a set of yet!

youd have much better luck with those than a bunch of soap operas

Well it worked for me which is why I gave the suggestion-lol But yeah U can also try and record some tv shows on your local WB and UPN stations. But just one question, doesn;t recoring EVERYTHING mean what you said about seeing what u can record off local UHF channels??????

Not necessarily true, i can't count the number of times i seen posts saying-"Did anyone record Jay Leno last night? or I need the Today Show from 5/29/06. So not a bad approach at all

Great, so you have that one eps they want. What about the other 50 eps of the tonight show that you have but no one wants?

I didn't say you wouldn't get any hits - just that you're going to end up with lots of shows no one wants. If you're going to record everything you can record, for every one show you get to trade out, there will be at least 4 others that no one will ever want.

Plus, it's going to take a WHOLE lot of time to build up a collection of shows you want by simply filling in eps of current shows that someone missed because their Tivo took a dive. Faster, easier & cheaper (IMO) to simply record and/or buy shows you are interested in rather than trying to record something just in case anyone else wants it.

Yeah I guess another approach would be to buy off ebay but NOT RETAIL

You forgot all about the promos. I want to hear the announcer say" stay tuned for the ten o"clock news and find out about a missing dog" that was found in 1978.

Researcher's way, you copy 42,000 shows and then when one person wants a particular episode, you now make a trade for one episode. Makes sense to me but then again I never thought the Titanic would sink.

When someone does this, they are not doing it JUST IN CASE someone what them, they are building a Tonight Show Collection. So that's what i'm trying to say, just think of a Tv show you want to start a collection of and you will eventually have all the Tonight Shows from 2006. Make sense?

No, what you said was tape everything. You never said tape things you are interested in having a set of.

Solomen does the same thing in the chat room. Makes a post and with each response changes his thoughts completely. It's pointed out to him on a continous basis, and they mimic him.
