Lots of posts on this board about how the 1954 version ran overtime and was cut off. How does this play on the "lost episodes" DVDs? Do they fade it out at an appropriate point (as they did in syndication and on Showtime), or does the CBS logo pop up and cut off the sketch, as it did on the air? Does anyone have that version, and/or Jackie Gleason's explanation in his monologue the following week? Thanks.

I heard that the 1955 remake of "Stand In" is in a private collection and that is why it isn't available on the home video market. Now, I don't know how true that is or not, but I know that a print of "Starts Over Flatbush" was also in a private collection, and they is how that entire Jackie Gleason Show episode ended up on the collectors market.

The only thing I can figure is that the show was in Gleason's collection because "Stars Over Flatbush" is available. Perhaps Gleason's kine of the 1955 remake of "Stand In" is damaged, or for some odd reason they just chose not to include it?!?!? Can anyone verify if the Museum of Television and Radio has the 1955 remake in their collection?
By the way, am I the only one who wishes that the Museum of TV and Radio would put a databse of their collection available online? That would be so nice, and handly, to TV fans! |

Another thing that always bothered me was how people claimed that episodes were "Lost forever" when they still existed. For example, "Lost Baby" and "Quiz Show," which are now widely available to us, were both listed as "Lost" on a list with episodes like "The Turkey." That makes me think that episodes like "The Turkey" still exist somewhere. Quote:

Not only would I like to see the database online, but I wish the MT&R would make selected shows available on DVD. UCLA has done this with the recent release of "Mr. Peepers," which came from their archives, and has a "UCLA" logo in the lower right from time to time (no doubt to prevent piracy). Many of the MT&R shows must be past copyright restrictions by now, especially kinescopes from the 1950's.
