Yes, it is true. They do a credit check and depending on your credit that is how much of a deposit you would have to put down.

They do have phones where you can prepay for the minutes. They are more expensive per minute, but have most of the features that a regular phone has....

Not really.Because it shows that you have no credit history if you haven't used it yet.

I see. If you pay full balances 'too quickly' that can strike against you. Can't make the whole world happy huh?

Is not that it messes your credit report or anything but creditors like to see that you are able to pay in the time frame given( i.e. 6 months) to give you credibility and credit with others.

If your not approved, then you can get a prepaid phone, the down side to that is, you have to buy your phone first. You can get a cheap phone for about 30 bucks but it won't have any good features. Or pay a big down payment and get trapped into a 2 yr contract.

Like Kazza said just because you have a credit card and you're paying it off on time, doesn't mean that you will get approved. You have to have established some kinda of credit history. In about six months of having your card and paying the bill, you shouldn't have any probs with getting approved with your credit.

I say just get a prepaid one, that way you can just buy time with no obligations. It's much easier.
