Default The Incredible World of Ed Norton

I found this while searching through TV.com's Honeymooners episode guide:
Quote:
188. The Incredible World of Ed Norton
First aired: 1/19/1970

The crew presents "The Incredible World of Ed Norton," an underground view.

Running time: 60:00.

This episode does not appear on the American Life TV Network & is the 1st remake of a 1st season Lost Episode. Lets hope it will be included in the upcoming MPI DVD set.
Does anyone know what Lost Episode they're talking about? I don't recall any Lost Episode having anything in common with this special.

Although I've never seen it, I believe this is a short sketch (not 60 minutes as indicated) that aired as part of a regular weekly Gleason variety program.

Maybe it will be one of the extras on one of the Color Honeymooners DVD sets...one can only hope!

And on top of everything, the 1970 airing was January 17. January 19, 1970 fell on a Monday.

But I believe that that sketch was previously staged on February 13, 1954 - two weeks after Gleason broke his leg.

There is a noticeable gap between "Cottage For Sale" (January 23, 1954) and "Lawsuit" (March 27, 1954), obviously due to him breaking his leg. But this sketch your referring to must not have been a Honeymooners sketch in that case. Was it one of those sketches where Gleason or Ed Sullivan interviewed Carney (as Norton)?

I don't recall the date, but Sullivan did fill in as host when Gleason broke his leg. Sullivan played a reporter and interviewed Art Carney (as Norton) as a "man on the street". They joked a bit about Gleason breaking his leg. Norton said something to the effect that it could be heard from miles away, when Gleason fell.

About the title of "The Incredible World of Ed Norton". It was obviously derived from the 1955 Studio One episode "Incredible World of Horace Ford", which had Carney playing Ford. There was also an ASM show from January 4, 1964 called "The Many Worlds of Jackie Gleason", which was narrated by Carney.

And I.I.N.M., the 1954 version was called "The Private Life of a Sewer Worker."

I believe you are correct Clarke that this was a segment of a Gleason variety hour from 1970 and not a complete 60 minute episode devoted to Norton. On my next trip to the Museum of TV & Radio I am going to look and see if they have it. I was overseas then and we received the kinescopes 5 months later...so I can't recall.

Oh, it was within a Gleason variety hour all right - otherwise we'd've seen it on AmericanLife TV as part of the Color Honeymooners package.
