Benson finished the 81-82 season way beyond the Top 30, it finished ranked #63. Info Found in TV Book-"American Television"-by Marc Eliot

..."BENSON" was still drawing a "comfortable" audience on Fridays for ABC to renew it for another season. Another factor was the network's "dwindling" supply of comedy shows- the Silverman momentum of the late '70s began to stagnate around this period, 'TV Researcher', and ABC figured it needed all the strength from its regular series it could get {they also let "TAXI" cruise to NBC after this season, remember??}.

WOW. That LOW in the ratings? I remember TV Guide had listed the ratings for season 6 (the 84-85 season!) as finishing #33! It seems surprising that it would have that much of a rebound years later, but who knows! I'd KILL for a book of archived Nielsen ratings for the last 30 years!
