Did it hurt when you got one? Like, does the needle hurt really bad when the tattoo artist is putting the design on or does it just hurt a little like a pinch when you get a needle for the flu or something?

I've been thinking of getting a tattoo this summer, but I'm not sure yet because I want to know what I'm getting myself into before I do anything drastic that I may regret. Please reply.

I think it all depends where you get it, but IMO, it didn't hurt anywhere NEAR the way I was expecting it to. People hype it up to be this awful thing and it really wasn't.

I have a tattoo right on my arm and the way I describe it is the way it would feel for somebody to write on your skin with a ballpoint pen, if they did it really hard.

I just think tattoos are dumb. Unless of course they are being done out of rememberance to someone. But just getting a heart on your hip for no reason is dumb.

It all depends how big it is. I got a big cross on my right arm and it hurt like hell. Then again, I got one on the back of my neck and that didn't hurt at all. I also got one on my fore arm and that didn't hurt either. If it is something big, it will hurt. The more you write on it, the irritated the skin will get.

I agree. It seems like you would get one and then you would regret getting it, and you can't get rid of it. I also don't think they look very good, but that's just my opinon. I hadn't even really thought about the pain because I wouldn't consider getting it for other reasons. Getting it in remeberance of someone is a good thing to do but I still think that there are better ways of remembering someone.

My friend and I are going to go and get a tattoo tomorrow. It is her birthday and we have been wanting to get one for a long time. So, we decided to get one to celebrate her birthday tomorrow!! LOL!! I am a big chicken, so if you hear a loud scream you'll know it's me!!

As long as you REALLY think about where you want to use as a design, REALLY think about the design and location, it shouldn't be that much of a problem. I have wanted a tattoo and knew what design I want to get since I was 14/15. They say you should REALLY give it consideration for at least 1-2 years (I've been thinking about it for 6-7 years now). Don't get a tattoo with your boyfriend's name on it or a Chinese symbol (99% of the time, they're written wrong or mean something really obscene...I don't see what the **** is so cool about Chinese symbols). Pick something that will have a lot of meaning to YOU.

Upper arm/back of shoulder is an ideal location for a tattoo; it can easily be covered up by a T-shirt, and nobody at work can see it.

Okay, I went off on a tangent in my post, sorry about that.

But yeah. I've wanted a tattoo for 6-7 years and I want it ASAP.

I guess it makes sense to get it if you had wanted it for several years.

Getting it with a girl or boyfriends name doesn't make sense. It seems like whenever people do that they end up breaking up.

I wouldn't want one put there, because if you wear a nice spaghetti strap top, you might end up looking trashy. Same thing if you wanted to wear a strapless wedding gown. I guess if I ever did get one, I'd get one on the top of my foot or something where it can't be seen. That's why I don't want to get one though, because the point of it is for it to be seen.

The one on my fore arm is in Kanji (Japanese Symbols) Believe me, I did a lot of research on the internet making sure the symbols were EXACTLY what they meant. LOL

same here. besides I have studied a lot abt chinese history, movies, people, art, for a long while now.

as for having it on a certain spot, especially for women, there are things nowadays that allow you to block out the tattoo for special occasions, like weddings or wearing a strapless outfit. how do u think the actresses do it? Angelina Jolie has many tats and they cover them for movies. I seen a girl on a wedding show who had a massive tat on her back and she had it covered with something she bought over the counter. she was a bridesmaid and the tat wasn't visible at all.

I have stewie on my left shoulder. he is positioned so that the only time he shows is when I wear a spaghetti strapped shirt. I also have a chinese symbol on my lower back.

That's no problem, because I don't wear spaghetti-strap tank tops...even if I WANTED to, I couldn't. If I wear something sleeveless, it's usually an A-shirt (aka wifebeater, but with thicker straps) or a muscle tee. Believe me, if I got a tattoo and wore something sleeveless, it would be hidden. That is, if I had it put on the back of my shoulder.

I've read a lot about tattoos, because I'm getting one soon. It hurts on areas where there isn't as much flesh - ankle, neck, hip bone. I've also heard it hurts more getting the outline than the filling in of the colour.

I'm really excited for mine. It's going to be a Gemini symbol in rainbow on my lower back, with music notes on either side, to my favorite song - which has been my favorite song since I was in 4th grade ((I'm in 12th now)) and my second will be on my shoulder blade, of the logo of whichever musical I first have any part at all in on Broadway.

Now that I've gone off-topic, yeah, I'll stop now.
