Default Harriette #2

Wasn't there a different actress playing Harriette right towards the end of the series? That was strange. How many episodes did she appear in?

Yeah the other actress was Judyann Elder and she played Harriette #2 for nine episodes in the 9th season.

JoMarie Payton gave up her role of Hariette as she felt the show strayed too far away from the original premise. I guess they thought that being on CBS they would have last a few seasons hence hiring another Hariette. If they knew cancellation was coming then I would imagine they would have had Hariette out of town or always away like they did Mabel on Whats Happening.

It was just wrong to have another Harriet. It was too weird.

Yeah especially because if it wasn't for JoMarie Payton there would have been no Family Matters to begin with. She played the part for ten years (including Perfect Strangers) and they just replaced her like it was nothing.

Since she voiced concerns over scripts and storylines, I guess the producers wanted to show her that they really didn't need her.

I can't believe the producers actually thought the show was going to survive for another season anyway. It would have been better to keep Jo Marie and really have a great series finale.

As much as I liked Harriette it would have worked better just to write her out not replace her since she was already getting only a small amount of attention anyway.

It was reported on TVTome last year that a series finale was planned twice. One for when they were on ABC as they were about to scrap the TGIF lineup and other one was for CBS (they banked on the fact they were going to get renewed and wanted Steve and Laura to get married on the season premeire). Since they were moved to CBS, the ABC finale was scrapped even though rumors glore claim that a script was written.

Family Matters was known for the disappearing characters. They could have act like she existed such as, shes at work or asleep, etc like they did when Mabel King left Whats Happening

Exactly they could have just mentioned from time to time that she is at work or she is away on vacation it is not that hard. Would have worked much better than replacing her.

I heard that in the 10th planned season, they were supposed to bring back Judy played by another actress (just should have thought of Jaimee Foxworth, these producers and casting directors must have been on drugs). I didn't like how Harriette was replaced. I think they should have ended with a mid-season finale at the end of 1997, after the X-mas episode when the entire cast appeared. Then have a two part finale then, as the 1998 episodes were a shame to the show. I wish they had did a 10th season though if they were going to fix mistakes they made (like Judy).
