From seeing the episode where Beverly Ann adopts Andy, was it mentioned before that episode that he'd grown up in foster homes or was this the first mention of it? He had a grandmother in White and Wrong and in Born Too Late Tootie mentioned trying to call him and his sister answering.

I'm not sure if the foster homes thing was ever mentioned before, but I don't think so.
My thoughts on the Andy situation was as follows. Originally he had a regular family as written. We saw his grandmother who seemingly treated him as her own and there was mention of a sister. I think that the writers got desperate to try and find some way to keep Andy (and Mackenzie) on the show and needed an explanation of how and why he would spend all his time with four twenty something women and one who was old enough to probably be his grandmother. I think it just came down to the fact that to keep Andy fully involved they needed a reason for him to be hanging around all the time, especially after George left. At least when George was around it seemed liked Andy liked hanging around with George like as a big brother type. But I don't think him being a foster kid was ever mentioned before. |

I'm pretty sure I remember it being mentioned before. I'll have to pull out my tapes for sure. Give me some time t find them and go back and watch them.
