Nope - I've got the DVD - it is clearly "pantywaist" - the cousin says it twice. It is old school slang for someone who is weak or effeminate. (http://www.bartleby.com/61/84/P0048400.html).

I voted for him delivering the baby. The actress was Sissy Spacek I think? A second choice would be him teaching the deaf child sign language.

That was a really good ep. though, but no way was John Boy a pantywaist. He always spoke up for himself and other people. He was a really sweet guy but not cowardly at all. He always was courageous actually!

My vote is for something not on the list- when John Boy shot the bear to save his dad's life. Something a pantywaist would never have done, and I can imagine the cousin from the Dust Bowl Cousins would have ran away if faced with a similar situation.
