oh know, that wasn't a show, it was a beach movie called For Those Who Think Young Tina Louise, Nancy Sinatra, and Paul Lynde are also in it.
On a side not the director of For Those Who Think Young also directed Rescue from Gilligan's Island |

the movie came out in June 64 and the pilot for Gilligan was shot in November 63. I am not sure when the movie started production but it was probably near November so it really wasn't that much before GI. Bob Denver was in a movie with Jim Backus though 5 years before GI called A Private's Affair but they aren't in any of the same scenes.

I desparately want to see this, but it's taking too long to load. I have heard the audio of this song, and it kicks ass.
About these movies, Bob wrote in his book: "Right after I got the part of Maynard I got to make my first movie. It was one of those B films that the Fox studio used to churn out in the late fifties, called A Private Affair. The plot centered around the high jinks of a bunch of soldiers. It starred Sal Mineo, one of Bing Crosby's sons (I could never get them straight), and all the actors under contract to the studio. It may not have been an Oscar contender, but I was thrilled to be in a motion picture. I only had a few scenes, but one of them was with Jim Backus. He played a visiting senator with all the bluster and pompousness necessary and asked me about army life. When I reminded him about it five years later when we were shooting Gilligan, he looked at me and said, "That was you?" I knew he didn't remember doing the scene with me. It was just another forgettable movie for Jim." also, "Later I did a "beach" movie in the early sixties called For Those Who Think Young. It starred James Darren and Nancy Sinatra. I played Jimmy's sidekick. The director wanted me to have a full beard for the part, so I grew one. I didn't know why until later. "Tina Louise was in the film, too. I didn't have any scenes with her. Never met her. Never even saw her. She doesn't list this film in her credits, but then, she won't say Gilligan's Island out loud either." |

Ok, now I've seen the clip and it ROCKS!!!!!
Especially when Bob jumps out of the sand. I don't care what anyone says, that man was HOT!!! There are also clips of Bob on "Password" and "The Invisible Woman" on YouTube as well, just do a search for "Bob Denver". I thought he looked stunningly handsome on "Password" because he was young and not wearing any silly Gilligan/Maynard costume. |
