There has been some speculation that Benson took place in Connecticut based on the premise that the Tates Mansion from SOAP was specifically in Connecticut.
Now there is new evidence of this theory. In the pilot episode, Benson gets a job at the Govenors Mansion by devising a plan to save the Beavers. Connecticut does in fact have a number of beavers living in the state. Here is a link: http://dep.state.ct.us/burnatr/wildl...hts/beaver.htm --->Rascilon<--- |

Yep more info to support that it was set in Connecticut. I'm sure I will find more things to point that it was in Connecticut as I begin to watch the show every night |

True, but in the episode where Jessica first visited, she said she had a flight to catch, and we all know Soap was in CT for sure. And one other episode said there is only one airport...
Confusing! |

If you look at the website for the Connecticut Govenors Mansion, notice the name of the man who took the photographs.
http://www.ct.gov/governorrell/cwp/v...norrellNav=%7C I have been trying to figure out if there is a connection between one of the writers or directors of Benson and the Oneill Theater School in Waterford Connecticut. (see photographers bio) --->Rascilon<--- |

Through careful searching in IMDB, I found out that there may be a connection between Maude and Benson.
Jay Rich directed 19 episodes of Benson starting in season 2. And Susan Harris wrote the pilot and many of the episodes. Both of these talents collaborated with Norman Lear, the creator of Maude, who coincidentally was born in New Haven Connecticut. --->Rascilon<--- |

Yeah I realized that 1900 mile thing too. Except there is an episode where the govenor says he sent the troops to desert training in New Mexico because there were no deserts in the state and another episode where Clayton crashes a helicopter in the desert supposedly not long after leaving the govenors mansion. I am inclined to believe these are simply errors on the part of the writing staff because the answers seems to conflict with each other. I still vote Connecticut.

...was writing the scripts. Susan Harris wrote the pilot episode, and she obviously meant the setting to be in Connecticut. Later writers avoided mentioning the "exact" location of Governor Gatling's state, preferring to be ambiguous about it....or they forgot (or CHOSE to forget) which "state" it was supposed to be.
