Now that time is getting closer and closer, I finally booked my flight back home from my upcoming Mexico City vacation. I am driving down there with a maternal uncle and his wife's family (who has family over there) on July 1st, and then I will be flying back home on July 9th. I'm glad I booked the ticket! I don't want to chance the prices going up. It's a 24-hour drive, but we will stop off for an evening/night at another of my uncle's wife's sister who lives in another Mexican city. We are going to rest and sleep over before heading over to Mexico City.
The only thing is my guilt feelings. I don't know why, but everytime I book vacation travel tickets, I end up feeling guilty for some reason. I know I shouldn't but I do.... I don't know why that is. ![]() Besides that, I am happy!! I have family in Juarez, Mexico (near El Paso, Texas), and I have been there. I have always wanted to visit other Mexican cities, and I finally get that chance!! I will be staying with my uncle's wife's family. I don't have to worry about accomodations. Anyone ever been to Mexico City or live there? Any recommendations of what to see? I will mostly be with the family, so I will go where they go. I will look up some info about the city itself (my first HUGE city I am ever going to visit), but I just wanted to know if anyone here has ever been there.

That sounds like fun. Don't feel guilty, you deserve a vacation and some happiness.
It's good to see that you're getting excited about life again.

I hope you have fun, swedeace!
There's no need to feel guilty, everyone needs a break from time to time.

I visited Mexico City just last year, before spending two weeks in San Miguel de Allende. I stayed at an inexpensive hotel in the Zona Rosa on Calle Hamburgo, pretty much close to a lot of the main attractions. I would definitely suggest a visit to Chaupultepec Park to the Museum of Anthropology, one of the world's great museums. As you probably know, Mexico City is a truly enormous city, arguably the largest city in the world, so it can be very chaotic and loud. A trip to the city center to view the Zocalo, National Palace, El Palacio de Bellas Artes is recommened, as well as a trip to the Basilica de la Virgen de Guadalupe. And you should definitely take a day trip out to see the amazing Aztec pyramids at Teotihuacan. Another interesting trip is to Xochilmilco, the Floating Gardens and a trip to the nearby city of Puebla in fascinating as well. There is so much to see and do in Mexico City, I couldn't possibly list it all here. The airport in Mexico City is confusing (they were doing major construction when I flew out of it almost exactly one year ago) and don't get ripped off by the taxi drivers. Be safe and have a great time and let me know how the trip went.

Thank you all for your kind words and greetings! Yeah! I can't wait!!
![]() I guess I am feeling guilty about it because I am planning on this vacation knowing that I should really be saving up for something else. I would like to eventually try and qualify for a home because I have been living in apartment complexes since I moved out from home. I can't help it!! I like vacationing as well! Sometimes my family asks me about my "future plans" on my home-buying decisions, and I tell them I don't know yet. I just sorta want to travel and vacation for fun before I settle in for a home, I guess. I still do feel slightly guilty, however.... *sigh* |

Anyway, thank you sooooooo much for your recommendations!!!! I am going to collect them and print them out right before I leave so I can remember them all. I am definitely interested in the museum visits. I think I heard my aunt saying they were going to visit the Basilica de la Virgen de Guadalupe. The Floating Gardens sounds awesome! And...ohhhh... it all sounds lovely!!! I will be taking pictures (I LOVE people photos AND landscape/statue photos), so I will post the scenic photos here!! I hope the family will ask me if there is anywhere I want to go so they can take me. Some of them might be working during that entire week, but let's see what's in store for them in the evenings. By the time I get there, it will be close to a Monday, and the following Saturday there will be a family birthday party going on, so the weekend is out of the question. Thanks for the tip on the taxis! Luckily, my aunt said she will be able to drive me to the airport, so that will help out. Thanks again! And, yes, I will tell you all about it!!

I know what you mean about feeling guilty. Whenever something good happens to me I feel guilty, too. But there's no need to really. I hope you have fun!
