Default DVD Brands

What brands of DVD-R discs do you guys reccomend using for DVD recording? Or is DVD+R better? What do you guys use?

Taiyo Yuden (TY) media is one of the most reliable out there. There are a few others that everyone seems to like as well, but for myself I've stuck with TY due to the success I've had with them. As far as the -R and +R debate goes, I use DVD+R for the authoring masters, but duplicate to -R for most traders (most traders I deal with prefer to receive -R).

Agreed! Taiyo Yuden -R or +R are some of the best. +R (Yuden) I feel are the very best on the market today.

What is Taiyo Yuden, a brand name? Where can I buy discs like that online or which stores carry them?

taiyo yuden is a very high end DVD. Pretty much everyone who uses them
swears by them.

The one thing about discs is that it's better to spend just a little bit extra for a higher quality than to jump from deal to deal. Even if you save 10 bucks if you end up with coasters you're not saving much.

Supermediastore.com seems to be one of the best just because it has good
bargains on the higher end discs. I very rarely buy from walmart or the stores anymore just cuase I'm not really saving any money.

Cdfreaks.com and vcdhelp.com are two great places to get reviews on
Discs including breaking things down to Serial numbers on the discs themselves. If you go with Taiyo yuden then make sure to study up on
how to spot fake ones as well.

Typically if they are labeled "Made in Japan", they are actual TY media. Sony OEM's them from TY. Avoid the "Made in Taiwan" Sony's.

I use Memorex DVD+/-R and have had no problems with it yet, and they're easy to find, you can get a 30 pack at wal-mart for only 15 bucks.

I wouldn't be happy if I received discs on Memorex! I would be rushing to copy them over and probably wouldn't trade again with that trader. If you are going to use store bought discs, I would suggest Verbatim. Maxell, Sony made in Japan discs are good too!

That's a little harsh on the Memorex discs. I have not had a single problem with them. On the other hand, Verbatim and Sony have been a nightmare for me and I quickly make copies of these and send them off to people like yourself, who swear by them

Mind you, I use TY's exclusively myself for burning. I think this is the most reliable brand out there, compatible with allmost all players, burners & DVR's. But for Marcus, I will send him Memorex next time to see if he'll trade with me again after that.

Hey Joker, glad you didn't read the beginning of this thread. I prefer TY!

Sony-made in Japan only (TY), I personally am not convinced that Verbatim is as great as LS and others think, but they say they are good too!

Since Memorex are pretty cheap price-wise, let's set up a trade since you like them. Of course I want my side of the trade on Taiyo Yuden.

Default varies

in truth GOOD or BAD depends on YOUR results

for instance i have 1 machine that wont read TDK at all, i dont know why, all the others-- same model # and same drives, read them fine

i have 1 that WONT read memorex at all

while TY are the best, the rest of the bunch are all up to your experiences
