Default Just came back from my first day of work and have just one thing to say

What a long day

Today I started work at Giant Foods Grocery Store as a cashier. It's not really that hard but its a lot of things you have to do and learn. I woke up at 6:15, went to school and came home at 2:40. I left for work at 2:50 and got home at 8:10. That is a long time. I hope to only work 20-25 hours a week. It is kind of funny seeing all the weird things people buy though. I don't think this mt job will effect my SO life but it might.

oh I was hungry by the time I left. They gave me a 15 minute break, but all I had time to do was go to the bathroom and have a soda. By the time I had my first sip I had to go back.

I feel your pain, I worked when I was in HS and it was hard. But come summer break it'll get a lot easier.

I hope so, just 12 days left. I don't know if I will keep working as much as I will be come September though. I think I will try to just work the weekends and maybe one during the week day.

I remember working retail and it is long, even if it's a part time day. The standing up all day makes it the worst. Although I never worked in HS.

But scanning groceries has to be better than clothing! You don't have to fold groceries.

I worked during my senior year of high school, and it was so hard. It was at an ice cream and sandwich shop, Brigham's. I used to work the 3 to 7 shift about three times a week after school, and then an 8-hour shift on one weekend day.

I hope it's not too hard for you Matt. Don't take on too many shifts. I hope we still see you here.

My deepest, deepest sympathies. I worked as a supermarket cashier for over five years and let me tell you that I know I'm going to Heaven when I die because I already did my time in Hell. Be ready to listen to little old ladies whine about how things cost so much cheaper 200 years ago when they were young, soccor moms throwing hissy fits because they had to wait in line for three minutes because you were already helping someone else, (How DARE you take up their precious time!), people insisting on coming through the express lane with afar more than 10 items because "they don't wanna wait!", people who scream at you because you won't bend store policy for them (Because they're so special!, people who will scream at you over things that any idiot should know that as a cashier you have NO control over, like prices or the weather, and many other things. You will stand on your feet for hours at a time, taking all this crap in with a pleasant smile on your face because "The customer is always right!" Then, when you think the day is finally over because it's 9 PM and the store is supposed to close, you will have to stay another 15-20 minutres or more dealing with customers who couldn't be bothered coming in during business hours. Then, when that's all done, you will will have to spend another 30-60 minutes cleaning up the store, throwing out the trash and reorganizing the aisles because Heaven forbid customers should have to clean up after themselves. You will finally get to go home tired and aching all over, only to start the whole thing over tomorrow.

I guess there are far worse jobs out there, but there can't be many.

I feel your pain, man....working sucks, especially while in school. The only thing that keeps me going is the promise of that paycheck at the end of the week. Boy, does that make me smile.

Reading this reminded me of the five years I spent at Target.

Wow! You certainly seemed to have an interesting job, Homeriffic!

Congratulations on reaching 6,000 posts, by the way.
