Default The fat jokes that was constantly used on Rerun in season one.......

.......would have worked better on him in the first season of What's Happening Now! He wasn't that fat in 1976, but see how he ballooned in 1985?

Oh yeah, GK, I noticed that as well, concerning Rerun's "ballooning" by the time WHN came around.
Especially with the opening segment shot of Rerun "adoring" a super-sinker stretch hero sandwich...Hmm.
Ugh...LOL

I just think the fat jokes were waaaaay too much. Didn't Fred object to the fat jokes at some point?

I don't think the fat jokes were too much, it worked and we had someone fat in our group of friends we told fat jokes, mama jokes etc. No one got offended by them. Besides, Mama put eveyone in check concerning the fat jokes.

Cool If Mama and Shirley could take them well...

If Mama Thomas & Shirley could take the fat jokes decently/well, then so could have Rerun.
Rerun/Fred Berry was just too big-headed and egotistical to do that, and if he had any sort of genuine self esteem overall, it wouldn't have been an issue anyway.
But NO...he had to act all cute about it (as we tend to say against someone who is clearly egotistical & "can't help it...").
Too BAD.

That was the whole reason for him being on the show. He was fat and could dance, it sure wasn't because of his acting skills.

Cool It's too sad about the fat jokes...but...

It's too bad about anyone having to endure any fat jokes or whatever else, but...
In Rerun's case, he had no real self esteem that would have possibly helped him to take them better than he actually did.
Shirley had no problem with them, nor did Mama Thomas (to a certain degree; she did manage to keep everyone in check about delivering them).

Re-Run wasn't an actor just like JJ. They were comedians and thats what they brought to the show.

That's funny, because they did an episode about that in season one. Where that group "The Rockets" hired Rerun because he was fat and could dance, so they could make fat jokes. And then to teach them a lesson, Raj took Rerun's place.

The fat jokes were a bit much. I'm currently watching all the episodes on DVD. I've got three more episodes to go in season one. And it's fat joke after fat joke after fat joke. And even when Mrs. Thomas told them not to make anymore fat jokes, a few episodes later, she joins in. Then she always makes fat jokes about herself.

As for Fred Berry being in The Lockers, I didn't know that until I watched the season one DVD of Saturday Night Live and they were the musical guest. I saw that and thought to myself "That's Rerun!" And I remember that he did some of that bit in episodes of What's Happening!!, lol.

Just for the record (and in my opinion, of course) Fred Berry was a much better actor playing Rerun than Jimmie Walker was playing J.J.

I agree with you. Fred Berry didn't say something stupid and out of tune like Jimmie Walker did.
