Default FKB in top 400 on tvshowsondvd.com!

I'm very glad to see that Father Knows Best is now in the Top 400 of unreleased shows at tvshowsondvd.com (it's currently at #399). Back in September of 2005, when I joined tvshowsondvd.com, the series was up around number four-hundred-and-sixty something. I've been watching the shows rating climb slowly but steadily, with new votes being added every few days. I am encouraged to see the constant steady stream of additional votes for this show. This tells me that there are stilll lots of fans of FKB out there.

It's very interesting to note that Sony (who owns FKB as well), would pick "Hazel" as a show to be released on dvd this summer. According to tvshowsondvd.com, Hazel has almost 100 less votes than FKB and also ranks roughly almost 100 "less" in the poll of unreleased shows (it's currently around #489 verses FKB's 399).

I suppose Sony makes such a choice only because some of the Hazel episodes are in color (the first year was in B&W) and it is a 1960's show (ran from 1961-1966). They need to realize that just because a show was filmed exclusively in black and white doesn't make it unsellable (look at I Love Lucy, Leave It To Beaver and The Honeymooners).

Also, reading old posts on this board, I notice that Sony ran an online poll about 3 years ago, asking people to vote for their favorite shows to be released on DVD. FKB was in this original poll, while Hazel wasn't even among the choices. (Not that I would ever begrudge Hazel fans for their show being released on DVD! I am glad to see that Sony still considers shows from this era marketable, but I personally think FKB would have done a little bit better, saleswise!)

Well, don't know about Father Knows Best, but as of today Hazel is number 86 in sales ranking in top dvd sales on Amazon which is outstanding. Especially since those are all pre-orders. I can't remember seeing a 50 or 60's show this high in amazon sales before. You go girl!

That's nice to hear about Hazel. Not a sitcom but from that era (and b&w), Perry Mason is also doing great: today #39 and I saw it at #16 last week - maybe it's even been higher.

---just checked again, Hazel is up to #56!

I'm pleased to read that Hazel has done so well in pre-orders. I hope the DVD continues to do well! Perhaps it will cause Sony to re-think its views.

Classic sitcoms such as Hazel and Father Knows Best DO have a ready-made market of buyers out there, a whole generation of baby boomers who grew up on these shows. We want to see these shows released on DVD in season sets, NOT more re-packagings of the 'Friends' series! (ugh)
