Looks aren't everything, some people look for other characteristics in a mate other then looks.

For one, it was in the script that he had to be smitten with her. For two, I agree that looks aren't everything. In fact there have several times in my life where I had thought a guy was very good looking but the more I looked at him the less good looking he seemed. Does that make sense?
