Oh No Poor Bookman

Whenever the show wanted to make an example of another person experiencing problems that the rest of the cast were going through, they dumped it on Bookman.

For example, when talking to Willona about adoption, the writers made Bookman reveal that he was adopted. Also, when Carl Dixon said he had cancer, Bookman revealed that he had cancer. Why dump all the problems on the Bookman character?

I suppose they felt it would have a bigger impact if it was someone you saw every week rather than a guest star.

I hated that. I tell you, I hated that sooooooooooooooo much. So stupid. He just so happened to be adopted. Oh yeah, right. He had lung cancer. Boy, he sure got his appetite back real fast after fighting lung cancer. People I know that had lung cancer are very thin. And no doctor would call up a patient and say "Hey, contact so and so and talk to him"...that is flat out BULLSH*T!!!!!!!!! And how would the doctor know that Bookman would even know Carl???????????????????????????????????????????????????????

That doctor needs his ass sued for divulging such private info.

LOL! Maybe bookman could have talked to James gambling friend..."Hey bud, I used to have a gambling problem myself. But then I got hooked into Gamblers Anonymous and let me tell you, they helped me out so much!"

He also could've talked to the Evans cousin and say, "Yeah, I was a former alcoholic."

And talked to Ned the Wino. "Listen Ned, I know of what you are going through. When I was a kid, my parents didn't want me and I was out on the streets. It was terrible not having a home, and then next thing you know the Bookmans took me in."

To James: "I've lost many a job. I know how you feel, struggling, working for minimum wage..."

To Keith: "Hey, i know abt having a drinking problem, I've been there myself. I remember talking to the Evans niece who also had a drinking problem. I talked to her and she eventually joined AA with me."

To Judith Cohen: "You know, I never had a break. but I know what you mean, I am talented and it's hard to get that break. Don't let your size get in the way...it's what you have inside that matters."

To Flo's pregnant friend: "I know it must be hard giving up your baby. My family didn't want me. Hell, i was a homeless kid. But if you do decide to give up your child, that's okay too because I too am adopted."

To Thelma: "I know what it is to love and lose that love..."

To Michael: "I used to be in a gang when I was a young kid and homeless."

My favorite Bookman story is the one about how he decided to go back and get his high school diploma after seeing Jesse Jackson on T.V.
Jesse probably spoke at his graduation.

To Gertie: "Me and Mrs. Bookman eat dog food on occasion... Did you think all those cans in the dumpster were yours"
To Cletus "I was gonna rob a bank... but I came to my senses at the last minute"
To Penny "Last month some maniac tried to attack Mrs. Bookman"
TO Carl "I used to didn't believe in god.. just like you until I got adopted and beat cancer"
To Larry and His mother " I've lost most of my hearing... yep thats right .. all these years I've been reading lips"

To Willona: "Having your ex come back into your life and be hurt again is something I know too well. Mrs. Bookman is not my only wife. I had a wife before her and she would cheat on me too."

To JJ: "I too have wished I was white too."

To Penny: "I was abused as a child...I know your pain."

To Penny's mother: "I too used to beat my first wife's daughter...I know how bad you feel and the anger you have...but I joined Parents Anonymous."

To Flo: "Mrs. Bookman is not my only wife. I had one before her and I had one before that one...she also died tragically. But for me, getting out and meeting new people at the clubs is what brought me back to life."

To Carl: "I used to be jewish before I became an atheist"

To Ibe: "Dude, This girl will not marry you. I have lived here long enough to know she dumps dudes left and right."

To Larry: "Dude, this girl will not marry you. I have lived here long enough to know she dumps dudes left and right."

To Uncle Wilbur: "Dude, I too had a fling with a very very young girl. She was my niece."

I've only seen a few episodes with Bookman, but they treated him like a buffoon.
