5 years! Oh my, I don't think I could handle that. But that's me talking, the girl who is barely skimming by with a C- in German class, or should I say "Deutche Classe"...Geez, I hate that class...

Good job! It took me 3 attempts to pass Spanish 1 with a D-. My high school had a 3 year language requirement to graduate, and I was the only person in the history of the school to get that requirement waved, because the spanish teacher thought I was a disruption to class and was preventing students with a chance to do well from learning. Whatever. I've been to Taco Bell. I know all the spanish I need

I fell sorry for you. I was lucky that my mother is German and I had to learn two languages. (because I went to German kindergarten. I think the people in my school system are stupid. Next year I'm starting Middle School and these are our language reguirments:
6th: Spanish
7th: French/ Japenese*
8th: German/ Japenese**

*If you're really good in French.
** If you're really good in German.

I hate Spanish. It's the only thing they teach you in elementary school. And they say you can talk to anyone from a Spanish country, which so untrue! Some of the words are changed from their original form in former colonies. I did take French Club in 5th grade.
So don't despair! German can be one of the hardest languages to learn. A hard way to learn all the languages of Europe is to learn Latin, or so I've heard.

Chrissy: Yeah, but she was very good at it.

Congrats! In my school system you can't take a full year of a language until ninth grade, but you can take a quarter each of German, French, Spanish, and Latin. I took Latin fourth quarter and I didn't have to take my exam. aBut I got a 96 on my English exam! And a 120 on my history exam (I didn't get any wrong and I got 4/5 bonus questions). I got a 92 on my Algebra exam (I'm STILL kicking myself over that one!!!) And I don't know what I got on my band or science exams... But Congratulations!!!

Wow!! I've been taking Spanish since 1st grade (but we didn't start having it daily until 5th grade) Spanish and math are my only strong points...I just do average in others...

It wasn't my favorite class but I needed to take it because in my school, senior year you couldn't have more than 2 study halls! So this class was like a filler, a very hard filler may I add. The work in that class was painful. I had to make sure I passed the important classes before this one so I really didn't have a lot of time to spend on it. There was a vocab quiz EVERY WEEK--sometimes orally but ALWAYS written, and you never knew sometimes until the day before whether it would be oral or written. The vocab list was packed with usually 60 words plus! And then we had to read a book in there and get quizzed on that every week, too! It was French 4 by the way. I took regular French in 7th and 8th, French 1 in 9th, French 2 in 10th, French 3 in 11th and then French 4 my senior year.

That's what some of the students at my school do. Every year, they progress and so on. But me, I'm just finishing German 1, and I am a sophomore. So I have to take German 2 next year to fulfill my credits for college. Otherwise I'd just take ceramics...

Congrats!

I took Spanish in high school and in college.
In High school, I didn't take it seriously and barely passed. But in college, it was a requirement, and I took it seriously. I got a B- average.

I'm not fluent, but I know enough Espanol to get around in Miami, a city where knowing the language is almost a survival skill.
