He wasn't really goofy, but I absolutely hated when Carl talked in military terms like "Halt Soldier!" and "About Face!" That was ********.

Thumbs down CARL WAS JUST PLAIN YUCK!!!!

1. he was an atheist-- florida was very spiritual and would NEVER have married an atheist no matter what

2. he was NOT good looking, he looked old and worn out and yucky

3. his personality was off putting

4. he talked in military terms and had no warmth

5. NOONE LIKED HIM!!!

Cool LOL @ JenJen... ;>)

For the record, I voted "yes."
Simply because Carl Dixon was entertaining in his own unique way, with his straightforwardness, and Florida usually kept him in check on certain occasions, meanwhile.
It was entertaining/amusing on both counts, during that particular season...

Hard to select a choice in the poll. I do like the character as a person, but as Florida's husband, no. I'd might say Florida shouldn't have remarried whoever the character was, but I don't have a problem with Carl specifically.

I didn't like Carl and I didn't really make sense to Florida have remarry, since the bond between her and James was supposed to be strong.

Some shows would had worked if the character remarried immediately. With Florida it would not work since the audience shared her grief when James died and we all liked him and him and Florida's relationship. I could had seen, providing if the show would had gone another season, Florida developing a friendship with a male that would had led to romance and to marriage. That would had made a good series finale.

Good Times was a show where so much hurt feelings got into play among the cast, directors, producers and writers. The show could had gone down as a classic but to see how it degenerated and when Esther Rolle left for that one season you can see the impact it made on the cast. It showed in their performances.
