Angry Major Headache Sufferers.....

As you may or may not know, I suffer from MAJOR headaches. I suffer them so often that it's really interferring with my life because I usually need to be in a less lit room and need a nap. I actually do not have one known headache. I seem to suffer mostly from sinus headaches and migraines.

Most of the time, the sharp pain is coming from a bit inside of my right eye's socket close to my lachrimal duct, so some people are saying it might be that I may need glasses. Holy crap!! I used to wear glasses to correct my lazy eye I was born with, but I was having problems seeing far away. I had to lower my glasses JUST so I could see far away. So I only wore them because I had to. I stopped wearing them when I was almost 18 years old.

I know I need to see a doctor, and bla, bla, bla... I also need to get my eyes checked out. A lot of people are convinced since I use computers sooooo much, I may have to revert to wearing glasses. Ugh! That means more responsibility purchasing them, caring for them, cleaning them, storing them safely, etc, etc.... I'm soooo NOT looking forward to that! pissed:

Sooooo... my question - anyone have any good medication and/or suggestions to help me temporarily relieve the headache pains? I took the OTC version of Wal-Mart's "Sinus Headache" pills, and those work sometimes while other times it doesn't work. Any other herbal remedies or anything??? This is, of course, ONLY temporarily until I make an eye doctor appointment. Thanks to all who can help.

I've had headaches for a very long time, so I'm really sorry that you go through that. For me, ibuprofen works best for the pain.

Hey Mona ,

As a fellow headache/migraine sufferer, I can definitely sympathesize with your pain! It's the worst, isn't it? I was told by a doctor that my migraines were hereditary (Mom and Dad both get them all the time, especially Mom). Honestly, the only thing that helps me personally is sleeping in a dark, quiet room. If it's a small headache, I try some Tylenol and that usually does the trick, but migraines NOOOO way--nothing works but sleeping.

Best of luck to you Have you tried cutting down on salt intake? I know salt makes my headaches worse. I heard green apples and bananas alleviate headaches, but who knows if that's a myth.

I get really bad headaches all the time. I think it has to do with the car accident I was in in April 1995. My head hit the windshield and ever since I have had really bad headaches. Another side effect of that accident is that I can only turn my head so far in either direction without it hurting.

Thank you all for your wonderful pieces of advice, hints and suggestions. I have found myself napping ALL evening long yesterday. I had my computer on and checked out all your posts, but I still had my headache that I wasn't in the mood to respond until this morning.

Thanks! I will try the cooling pads. What is "Head-On," exactly? Can I find these items in the headache section of like Wal-Mart, Target, etc?

Thank you. I am also sorry you also suffer from headaches as well. I think I envy people who have said they seem to "never" suffer headaches. I know of a former instructor/co-worker of mine (I mentioned her in the "Do you know anyone special?" thread) who told me she used to suffer from bad headaches, but they went away once she had some chemo. Amazing.

Ibuprofen... ah, okay.... What mg do you recommend?

Hey there! Yes, the pain is the worst pain. Ugh... My boss even told me I really need to check this out with a doctor because he knew a friend who also suffered from really bad headaches that he couldn't take it one day and killed himself due to the throbbing pain. Yikes.

Hereditary, eh? Wow... I better check on my family history then. One of my maternal cousins does get headaches but only sometimes. I hear what you mean about sleeping in a dark, quiet room. I find myself doing that. I turn off all the lights and turn my TV down way down and usually have to cover my head. I try to nap, but I am usually tossing and turning. And I find myself napping for about 30 minutes to an hour at a time before I wake up myself or someone on the phone is calling me. Grrr... That's what's been happening to me these past three days. I woke up with a headache again, but I took two migraine pills, and that seemed to have stopped it. What's weird is that one form of OTC medication works best for me at a certain time but not necessarily at another time. So I have sinus pills, regular pain reliever, and migraine pills. I take them accordingly to where exactly I feel the pain.

Hmmmm... that's a good idea about cutting down on my salt intake. Very good idea. It would be difficult for me at first because I am a MAJOR salt-lover. But I will try anything... Thanks!!

Thanks!! I will have to see about that... Hmmmm.... Sinus Tylenol for both tension and sinus headaches... That sounds like a worthwhile combination instead of me purchasing two different OTC meds. Thanks!!

A cold wash cloth is like a cooling pad. I will try that too. Thanks!
