Thumbs up Holy Cow! Cubs on a roll!

10 in a row and counting baby!

I know, I know everybody will say they are going to fade...but not this year! This team is well-balanced from top to bottom and they have (arguably) the best manager in baseball. It will be a great summer at Wrigley! I can't wait until they feast on some Cardinal...

Wink

I am mighty impressed with Don Baylor, and I knew with that pitching staff they put together over the summer they would have success. And boy have the other! So have those Phillies and Twins. Now only if my Braves could get a three game winning streak going...

Was that directed at me?! The Cards already had a 10 game winning streak!! We should get a streak started tomorrow going against the Reds. I so want to be at Busch the next time the Cubs are in town, but I bet all the games are sold out. Something tells me my Mom wouldn't be to cool on her 20 year-old daughter sitting in the bleachers during a series where fights regularly break out (She nixed sitting in the bleachers during a Mets game in the late 80s when that rivalry was brutal)! I could take my uncle, but he probably would start something himself!

Here's a couple recent developements. Mac is back and can actually run the bases at some speed. Edmonds plays off Mac very well and he should be going on fire momentarially. There is some talk about trading for Wells to pitch. The Cardinals already have a top-notch pitching staff along with the Rookie of the Year if you held the voting right now, who would contest for MVP also (Albert Pujols). It's going to be an interesting match-up when the Cards and Cubs meet up that's for sure. And I don't know about any of you Central Division fans, but I'm thoroughly enjoying the once powerful Eastern Division having only one team consistently over 500 (the Phillies at that), while the others struggle. I'm tired of all the crap that gets thrown on the Central and it's teams (even the Cubs). This year the Cards, Astro's, Brewers, and Cubs (if they hold it together!) will challenge for the championship. The Reds would be in it too if they didn't have half their line-up on the DL, including Griffey (who is getting major heat around here for it) and Larkin. The Pirates just plain suck. It's been a long time coming for the Central!

Mac is back.... so what... I know I'm in the minority of America, but I don't buy his "nice, all-American guy" act. To be fair, I don't buy it from Sammy either.

August 1. That is the day I predict the Cubs will blow it. They'll come out of the All Star break on a 15 game losing streak and will be out of it. Wish that weren't the case, because I really would love to get some post season action at Wrigley.

I'm not sure about Big Mac, but Sosa is all an act if ya ask me. Then ago 9 out of 10 ball players all. They all just want to be the highest played player. Sosa fussed about his contract all last year and during the off season, glad Baylor stood up to him. At least Big Mac is staying in St. Louis where he belongs, and didn't have to be paid MEGA bucks such as A-Rod.

I agree. I think they will blow it but I hope they don't. It just seems to good to be true.

I do have to defend McGwire (of course!)

-He signed a 2 year contract for about 15 million I believe, way beyond market value if you go on what other's are making. He handled the negotiations himself, with not agent interferring driving the price up.

-A percentage of that money is deferred so that the Cardinals can sign the Edmond's, Vina's, and make a run at signing the Hampton's (they were this close). He cares about winning and not lining his own pockets.

-There's going to be a flag in Right-Center with number 25 on it and a "Big Mac" written underneath that flag. Every other flag flying out there belongs to Cardinal who played in St. Louis for at least 15 years. No small feat for someone who is in their 4th full season as a Cardinal.

Sosa really soured in my opinion with the contract junk this past winter, especially after McGwire signed. My biggest laugh for the day is looking at the AL West Division standings with Seattle on top and the Rangers near the bottom.

Leslie, I couldn't agree with you more! Everytime I think about the Rangers being at the bottom while Seattle is sititng on top it makes me want to smile. No one deserves as much money as A-Rod got, no matter who they are, so it's funny to see them loosing. Then again it's the Ranger's own fault. Everyone knows you can't win without pitching.

I was soured on Sosa years ago back when he was a White Sox. Alligations of him being a premadonna in the locker room, plus the rumor of him beating up his wife surfaced way back then. Those rumors were kind of swept under the rug when he became a Cub, but I don't buy it.

Sorry, leslie and ks.... there is just this smugness about Big Mac that makes me question his likeability. But he is an excellent player, I'll give him that. I have his rookie card, so I'm pushing for him to do well so I can sell that sucker.

Cubs came to a sudden halt as they lost last night. Thought it was funny to see Sosa hop like he'd hit the game tier in the bottom of the ninth with two outs, but the look on his face was priceless when Burnitz emerged with the ball. I wonder if Burnitz really caught that ball in the triangle...
guess only he knows!

I hope you mean the Red Sox and not the White Sox. Nothing is more boring than a subway series. And Comiskey is the biggest ghetto stadium I've ever been in (and in a big ghetto, to boot, but that's a whole different story). Fenway, on the other hand, is beautiful.
