Default Robert Stack Ghost Believer?

Having just watched the Ghosts DVD'S I have to say I got the impression Robert Stack took most of it with a pinch of salt as he seemed to be grinning during the segment introductions, good set though and some cases like the slaves buried in the gardens and the 30 year old had a heat attack and died and the one where the electric went through that woman were pretty frightening but you get the impression with some of them that they may just be stories to increase trade at guest houses and museums, the funniest one was Alan Mann as you had this very overweight unattractive man who sees this ludicrously attractive ghost calling his name and then she desires him so much she inhabits the body of his girlfriend and tries to haev her way with him- teenage fantasy perhaps?

If I had to hazard a guess as to why Robert Stack was smiling/smirking during the ghost segments it would be that perhaps he figured they weren't as serious as some of the other segments (wanted/fraud) because there was no criminal activity involved. I always thought he either belived in the ghosts or was at least was open to the idea that they could appear - it would be tough for viewers to believe in them if the host didn't. You're right James T, the Alan Mann clip is a classic. If you do a search for it here on the boards, you could probably find a lot of old hilarious posts on the subject. I think there's even a mention of it on www.jumptheshark.com

He might've been smiling because ghost stories are more of tales rather than urgent stories that must be solved like, say, crimes. Maybe he just enjoyed telling ghost stories with an unbiast view of them.

Just a thought.

Some of the commentary tracks on the boxsets imply that Stack had a hard time believing either the Ghost or UFO stories...but his professionalism ensured that he always made them compelling viewing anyway..

I got that impression as well, talking about the sets I have only seen two so far but the commentaries seem pretty badly done- you would have thought they would have turned up with notes but they seem ot have no idea who shot the segments or what season they aired etc most of the time plus in the case of the English haunted house that went to trial here and got national publicity the case was thrown out of court in 1999 yet there was no mention of this for American viewers, also the thing that annoys me the most is the extras on the ghost set as they are the same for all four- yes the Robert Stack tribute and the 200th solved case were good but they could have added a couple of extra ghost stories at no cost on each of the other three discs as extras rather than putting them on all four still the other set I bought had no extras at all so at least it is an improvement
