Me and my friend were hanging out at his apartment today, and he had a footlong steak sub. It smelled good and it had lots of meat on it. I personally didn't want any, because I had my lunch right before I went over there, and I personally don't ask or expect anyone to offer me anything. But he didn't say, "have some?" or "are you hungry?" He just ate the sub right in front of me. It's just common courtesy to offer. I could never eat in someone's face, and not offer them some, it's the principle thing to do. Let me remind you all, I cannot eat even a small bag of chips around this dude without him asking for some. He will ask you for something before you can offer.

I would offer, but it depends on what you are eating. If you are eating something you need a fork for I wouldn't. The same goes for ice cream, but the things you mentioned I would offer.

It really depends on the person/situation. I stay in a workhouse with 5 other guys, and no way am I just going to offer food to anyone that walks by when I'm eating. We all just kind of eat on our own terms.
There are other situations where I wouldn't eat anything without offering or asking if the other person wants something to eat. |

I always offer...even if manners didn't matter to somebody, it's just awkward to sit there eating something right in front of somebody while they're just watching you.

If the other person has no food in front of them then you should at least offer a bite or yours if you have some.

If you're eating in front of someone you should at least offer them some of your food or to get them something if they're hungry.

Unless I've invited someone over to eat, I feel no obligation to offer the person what I'm eating. First off, nobody, except my husband, is taking a bite of anything I'm eating. Secondly, it's my lunch, dinner, whatever.
I would probably say that I feel bad that I didn't have any to offer my friend. I don't like to to be the only one eating, so it would be awkward, but my food is my food. I eat one meal a day and God help the person who reaches into my plate, lol. I worked with a girl a few years back. She was a young intern, and a bunch of us were in the cafeteria. She was known for eating her lunch fast, then picking off other's plates. I flat out told her once. "Amanda, I'm hungry, and this is my lunch. Please leave it alone." |

If it is my dinner or lunch, no I won't offer. Then again, I try not to eat in front of anybody to avoid that question.
