Default 7th Heaven Kills Everwood

From TV Guide.com

What the Hell! 7th Heaven Killed Everwood!
And here we were directing all of our anger at One Tree Hill, when it turns out it was 7th Heaven's
last-minute reprieve that chopped down our precious Everwood! Shortly before CW's inaugural upfront presentation today, a well-placed source told me that Everwood was originally slated to be a part of the newbie net's schedule next fall. (In fact, there's still an Everwood page on CW's website.) But then the ratings came in for Heaven's "series" finale, and Ostroff ordered an 11th season instead. All of this was essentially confirmed by Ostroff herself when we went toe-to-toe earlier today at Madison Square Garden. Below is our brief Q&A.

Ausiello: There are a lot of angry Everwood fans out there. They just don't understand why it's the only "bubble" show not returning.
Ostroff: Everwood was honestly the toughest decision. It really was. We knew we wanted to make room on the schedule for at least one new drama.... And when you look at the shows that we're bringing back and what went with what, really, Everwood was the hardest show to fit into the configuration. It was really, really hard because the fans are really devoted.

Ausiello: One of the theories going around is that the moment you decided to bring 7th Heaven back, Everwood died.
Ostroff: (Crickets) It was, you know... it really came down to those two shows. It was such a tough call. Look, we're launching a new network, we wanted to have the best shot we could. Not only for the new network, but also for Runaway, which is a family drama.

Ausiello: Did you ever think about keeping both 7th Heaven and Everwood? They have a pretty good thing going on Monday night.
Ostroff: The thing is, Everwood couldn't really start the night. We looked at the ratings for Everwood, and leading off the night...

Ausiello: No, I'm talking about leaving Everwood where it is at 9 pm after 7th Heaven.
Ostroff: We wanted to put a new show on the air, and Runaway is a really good show. We couldn't have the whole schedule of returning shows.

Ausiello: What about giving Everwood a 13-episode commitment? That way, if Runaway tanks, Everwood could be on deck to fill in.
Ostroff: (Sigh) We wanted to try something new.

Ausiello: I hear the decision to renew Heaven was made after the ratings for the finale came in. True?
Ostroff: It [drew] over seven million people. It's hard to ignore that.

You know what else is hard to ignore? Five million pissed-off Everwood fans.

From The Chicago Tribune

The end of 'Everwood'
In a brief e-mail, "Everwood" creator Greg Berlanti had this to say about the end of "Everwood" (and by the way, I'd asked him if he'd shop the show elsewhere, but that doesn't sound like it's going to happen. What follows is the entirety of Berlanti's e-mail):

"We're all profoundly sad... but at the same time amazingly grateful we got to be a part of something so special. I would personally like to thank all of the amazing fans and critics that have supported the show (yes, I'm talking about you, Television Without Pity) and connected with it the same way we did. You guys were the reason we were on so long to begin with. Andy Brown, Ephram, Delia, the Abbotts, Nina, Edna, Irv and all the other folks of Everwood that we got to watch grow and change, suffer and soar -- they're not characters, they're us. And they will live on in our hearts and in syndication forever. I can only hope in my lifetime I get to be a part of something again that touches people in the same way. Until then... enjoy the last few episodes. And thank you guys so much for spending four years in Everwood."

Executive producer Rina Mimoun had this to say:

"It's been a very sad week for all of us Everwoodians. While we all knew this was possible, it still felt surprising when it actually happened. I guess crossing all your fingers and toes for 30 days straight doesn't do that much after all.

"But all I can say is we had a lovely run, and it was the best four years I've ever spent in television. Hopefully the fans will enjoy our finale and keep us in their hearts."

Well, I hope "7th Heaven" pulls in monster ratings for the new CW, or else they're going to look like idiots for snuffing out "Everwood."

Nah, they're idiots right now!

They won't. Ratings for 7th Heaven were a lot larger than usual because it was supposed to be the series final. I even watched it for the first time in 4 years but I don't intend to this fall.

I don't even watch Everwood, and I'm pissed about this!! Why can't 7th Heaven just die already?! It's like some kind of a horror movie monster who returns at the last second, just when you think it's finally gone.

For MONTHS during EVERY WB show, I had to see those damn little things at the bottom of the screen advertising only so-and-so many episodes left until it's 'Goodbye to the Camdens'. After drawing it out so long, let me tell you, I couldn't WAIT to say goodbye to the Camdens!

And for what? NOTHING! I got my hopes up that I would never have to see them ever again (because even if you don't watch the show, if you watch the channel then you DO have to see them) and now it's all been a lie!!

Just die already, Camdens!! DIIIIIIIIEEEEEE!!!!!!

That's the thing. I hope the CW doesn't expect those millions of viewers who watched the finale to come back in the fall. If they decide to can "7th Heaven" midway through next season because the ratings drop down, then they'll look like fools.

Why in the heck can't they at least use Everwood as a mid season replacement. It makes no sense to me.

I have no idea. They hardly have any backup series.

I have a feeling The CW won't be around that long. Look at all their shows. They're all "Veteran" series. Gilmore and Girlfriends are going into their 7th seasons, Smallville and Reba in their 6th, and 7th heaven in it's 11th!!!. And let's face it, all these shows will be gone in the next 2 years. They would have had a good thing with Everwood. Even if they only kept it as filler for mid-season. Sucks to be them I guess!

I think the CW is a disaster waiting to happen. GG and Smallville are in the twilights of their runs. The only relatively new show I watch is Supernatural.

You guys know I am more pissed than words can describe about how The CW just did Everwood like that.

A lot of my favorite shows are on this network (Gilmore Girls, Veronica Mars, Supernatural, OTH), but I still hope it falls flat on its face for what it did to Everwood. That was just plain wrong!

I still think they could have used it as a back up show. What are they going to air in the winter but reruns ( they have no back up shows) and the reruns don't bring in ratings.

AND...I have a feeling Runaway isn't going to stick around.

and Runaway is the only new show that looks halfway good. I know they've only been airing reruns but the CW's ratings so far have been in the 1's.
