Post Fire Episode

Hey guys!

I was reading the new posts here and came across one that talked about the fire episode and it reminded me of something that I always wanted to find out about. The last time I watched that episode I think I was 11 and I remember that David went into his room (I think it was his room) and picked up a picture that was burned beyond recognition, sandy walked in and then Dave started to cry. I was wondering if that pic was of his mom and if that was what triggered the tears. Can NE one help me out here? :-)

I got the idea that it was of his mom as soon as I watched it. But others would debate it. But I think it is of her. It had to be.

I hope that some-what helped.

The pic most definitely was of his mother. I remember reading an article (mind you this was from a tabloid rag so this may be made up) that stated that the fire episode was the show's attempt to explain why certain momentos of Mom's were no longer on the show.
Things like pictures, clothes, etc., even though the same pictures on the mantle of the other Hogans remain unchanged. Also, couldn't the Hogans get new pics of mom from Val's family, the Hogan's grandparents? 'Tis life in the sitcom world...

Anyway, the show had to do this somewhat delicately. At the time this particular show was being filmed, Valerie Harper was trying to get the courts to force the show to stop using her name in the title of the show (it was renamed "Valerie's Family" at the time) as well as not mentioning her name at all in the show. Ever wonder why, from this episode on, the Valerie character was never called Valerie? It was always MOM, MOTHER, WIFE, MRS. HOGAN, etc. Well, now you know the reason. It's one thing you can't blame the show for...

A side note: Valerie agreed to let the show continue using her name only in the title (on the show itself her name was off limits!)with the stipulation that Lorimar and NBC go to court within the same year. She figured the sooner the better, otherwise it would've taken at least 5 years (by then THE HOGAN FAMILY was off the air) for the case to go to trial. She reasoned that if she waited that long that the public would get used to the idea that she was fired for being greedy, even if she won in the end. And she also knew that her chances of getting other jobs would be slim if the case wasn't settled.

Just a little tidbit for you all...
