Guys,
Did the professor say anything scientific that he later admitted was wrong, or that you or the castaways knew was wrong? Jack |

Quote:
The lagoon's measuring stick that the Prof. used to measure the water level of the lagoon kept getting shorter. Only it wasn't because the island was sinking. It was because Gilligan liked to fish for lobsters and he would just move the stick out to deeper water so that he could try to catch bigger lobsters!!! LOL!!! Jack |

BTW, in the episode "Ship Ahoax." the Professor does make a noticeable error; not in science, but in literature. He uses the quote "Oh what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive," and credits it to Shakespeare, when in fact it was Sir Walter Scott who is credited with that famous saying.

In "Quick Before It Sinks," the truly scientific thing to do would have been to place identical poles at various places in and close to the water to observe if they all showed differences and if they showed the same differences----also to test whether any phenomenon was causing the poles, over the course of hours, to sink in the muck of the bottom of the lagoon. The professor indicated a significant change everyday---it also wouldn't have hurt for someone to observe that familiar landmarks near the water weren't getting closer to the water's edge or going underwater. To conclude, based on one piece of data, that the whole island was sinking was a lot like someone getting into an elevator and thinking that it stayed stationary while the building moved up and down around it.
BUT----having said that, I'll also say that if I want science, I'll watch Mr. Wizard or the Discovery Channel. When I want a good, genuine, healing laugh I'll watch GI

There is no such thing as a "reverse tsunami" as the Professor claimed in that surfer episode.
