How the hell was "We Built This City" by Jefferson Starship voted worst song ever?
Blender voted WBTC by Jefferson Starship the worst song of all time. I listened to it on Billboard's Top Hits 1985, and I can't stop playing it.(Well, I can, after a few times)............. This song is not bad at all. I listened to it 4 or five times last night, and I constanntly put this song on repeat. When Blender/VHI presented it as Number One worst song, I was like, 'How can that be?" my mouth dropped open in shock!
I love this song! B/VHI said that it was worse than Ice Ice Baby Ice by Vanilla Ice! They said it was worse than Billy Ray Cyrus's Achy Breaky Heart!

Actually, even though I would not go so far as to pick "We Built This City" as THE worst song, I do think that it is one of the worst. There were songs on their list that I really like though, so I guess it is really all a diiference of opinion.

lol...that's hardly the worst. It's silly, sure, but not bad. You can sing along with it.

I think one of the reasons this song was picked, is because when they were Jefferson Airplane, Grace Slick and company were on the cutting edge of music, and to go from "White Rabbit" to that song, for some is a drop. JMO!

I like that song, as well as many other Jefferson Starship/Airplane songs.

I like the song "Sara" by Starship. I always get choked up when I hear it because I once was in a "sort of" realtionship with a girl named Sarah and it didn't end well. And it is just a catchy pop song. "Nothing' s Gonna Stop Us Now" is pretty good too.

That reminds me. How did they go from Jefferson Airplane to Starship to Jefferson Starship?(unless Starship and Jefferson Starship are two different bands) |

The only reason that song was voted worst song is because of the history of Jefferson Airplane/Jefferson Starship/ Starship. Some music critics hated the Jefferson Starship because it was radically different from what it grew out of (the Airplane). When the Jefferson STARSHIP sing that THEY built this city (San Francisco) on rock and roll, music critics pounced on it negatively ( because how could this reformed band with new members --though Grace Slick was still there) claim such a thing! I personally like this song and also like White Rabbit and Sara. So I like the original and all incarnations of the group.

Starship got real bad after their hit song "jane". they went downhill after that. they got into the music video thingy and seeing Grace Slick all dressed 80's style was tooooo much.
the group CHICAGO was awesome, just great, til Peter Cetera came along and they did all those sugar and spice lovey dovey songs. Not to mention they got into the music video craze as well. Give me the old Chicago with the brass section and up temp beats, good ol' memories. |

Its not a great song, but, certainly no where near as bad as "Last Kiss", "My Girl Bill" and of course, the actual worst song of all time "Honey"

Actually, Peter Cetera was one of the founding membrs of Chicago. He was the bass player and one of the vocalists from the beginning until 1985. I think when he started to sing more lead they got much better as a band. |
