Cliffnote here-
If you plan on downloading shows, make sure you add a note to your list- a LOT of people don't trade for AVI or downloaded shows. I myself capture IN AVI from my dvd recorded and cable box, and even that at times, I don't get trades for items. If you notice on a lot of peoples list IE: Loren, KristenHerrarFan, Martinis4three it says No torrented files, no AVI files. Also, downloading very often is peer to peer illegal and copyrighted files- So be careful what you download. If it says DVD rips- It is illegal If it says "extras, bonus features, subtitles" It is illegal If it says Bootleg, or ITO (in theater only) Or OST (official soundtrack) It is illegal. If a site is investigated, your IP is involved and as well, your cable or internet provider is allowed to find out what sites you went to, and compare bandwith information. Just some humble advice. |

Actually my DVD Burning software will burn MPG, AVI , MOV, MPEG4 and a lot of different files, but when it burnz, it automatically encodes to VOB, so the file can be a different extention to begin with, but once you burn it, it automatically compresses to VOB
Some of my facts of life dvds, the episodes on it were AVI files to begin with.

First of this is stricky for me. Not intended to use them for trade.
I hve burned afew things on to DVD. The quality I have to say was good! Mostly what I have burned is stuff people haveposted like Music performances or news stories. Stuff that may no longer be avalible ever again. If there is a show avalible on DVD I buy it!!!!' ![]() I also found out my DVD writer can chanve to PAL format. Pretty cool. |

Savage's advice is wise though. Be weary of what you download...hint: major motion pictures on opening weekend, not a good idea!!! |

What would you say is the best encoding software? Peraonally, I use Cucusoft and Tmpgenc. I find that Tmpgenc gives the best results
, but it can take up to 5+ times longer than Cucusoft J |

Some of this also depends on whether someone is looking for the
end credits on source material or not. Many of the torrented files on new shows don't have the credits (mostly cause they're interrupted by whats up next parts from the networks). So that is also what Savage was probably referring to as well. With a lot of the older material since they were never broadcast or developed in High Definition anyway you're going to get a weaker signal. But then it's all about the collecting anyway. Right now I swear by Nero. If you don't want something complicated and it's just for your personal wants then the program is a breeze to use. If you're looking for something more complicated (wanting to add your own subtitles, dual audio tracks, Multiple pages etc then there are a ton of reviews at vcdhelp.com or cd-freaks.com |
