Default Do you refer to your aunts/uncles as 'aunt' and 'uncle'?

i don't know what inspired me to ask this, but do any of you refer to your aunts/uncles that way? i have always been very close with my aunt Jane, my mom's sister, but i've never called her 'Aunt Jane', not even once.

on the other hand, when i see my dad's family, i call my dad's siblings (and their husbands/wives) aunt & uncle. probably because i don't see them as much, and i use it more to be respectful.

what about you? if any of you have nieces/nephews, what do they call you?

Yes, My siblings and I always refer to them as Aunt/Uncle. My niece and nephews call me Aunt as well. When they were real little they just called us by our first names though because they were still learning to talk.
I would feel funny calling my aunts/uncles by only their first names. Same thing with with our neighbors when we were kids. We always had to refer to them as Mr. or Mrs. so and so, we were never permitted to use their first names.

I refer to my aunts and uncles as Aunt/Uncle. I think it's one of those things you never grow out of, even my Aunt Sharon who I am really close with I would never even think about calling her just Sharon.

I always refer to my Aunt and Uncles as Aunt and Uncle. It's a sign of respect for me at least. My Niece calls me La La though.

i guess in the same case, it's something you never grow into i can't see calling my aunt Jane 'Aunt Jane' but i can't see calling my dad's siblings and their spouses by their first names only either.

one of my friends (who's 15) has a 4 year old nephew and i don't think he would call her 'aunt Makayla' because she's only 11 years older than him, almost more like a big sister. and my brother's friend has an aunt who is the exact same age as her, and they are in the same class at school too and my stepmom's brother is the same age as her son (my step brother). so in those cases it's even less likely to call them aunt/uncle.

My Mom and my cousin were close in age and my cousin hardly ever called her Aunt. I think if I had one that was close to my age it might be strange.

I've never done that. I always just call them by their names, and I'm not sure why. A couple of my friends found that strange and would ask me why I just say that instead of saying "Aunt" whatever, but I dunno...I guess it's just not like that in our family.

No, I've always just addressed then by name and that was always fine with them.

I have always called them aunt and uncle. (People were more polite and respectful to adults in the 50's) But my own children (who are adults now) called my brothers and sisters by their first names. Because three of them are very close to their ages. I cannot picture my kids calling my youngest brother uncle. He is only 4 years older than my oldest and they were playmates as kids and grew up together.

I have always said "aunt & uncle". But if they are the same age as you, I can see not using it. To me, not using aunt/uncle would be like calling your parents by their first names instead of "mom & dad", lol.

Yeah, it seems to me most people use the aunt and uncle thing, too. I've always just called them by their first name. I don't think anyone in my family's done it any other way.

Well, I have a huge family and we always have a family reunion in the summertime. My dad and mom have a total of 12 brothers and sisters between them. To save confusion I do call them Aunt or Uncle followed by their name. It just saves confusion.

I never thought about it before!! LOL!!
