Default Thoughts on the Recent Brady Bunch TV Land Marathon?

Guys,

VERY NEATO! Although I have all of the series on DVD, the episode selection was very good. Guide information was accurate with one exception (that I saw), "Greg Gets Grounded" was substituded for "Greg's Triangle." The only criticism that I had was they should have done the episodes in more of a "Best of" sequential order. Going from something like "Career Fever", (Which I missed in this running, but saw on the guide) to "A Clubhouse is Not a Home." took away a lot of continuity. The question that I have is, Why did they show the pilot episode, "The Honeymoon" so late in the lineup?

And what's with this "Funniest Mom in America" and "Top 10 TV Moms" garbage? So what if it's Mother's day... if Mother's day is that important to TV Land, then just to a "Funniest Mom in America" marathon, and see if anyone watches...

TV Land can't even get a "48 hour Brady Bunch Marathon" right...

Yo, TV Land, what part of "48", "Hour" "Brady Bunch" "Marathon" don't you understand?

The commericals for this "Funniest Mom in America" aren't even remotely humorous... who watches that crap? Jeez, "Snow White and the Seven Bradys" was funnier than the stupid commercials they're running to promote that show...

Better yet, they could have scheduled the "Benson" marathon for this weekend, and then pre-empted THAT with their so-called tribute to Mothers Day...

However, I have to admit that it was great seeing Kerry Hathaway again this morning

And I did think the episode selction was pretty good...they just (as usual) repeated too many episdoes... anyone know the reason for that?

Yea,

I saw that listed and I was like WTF? TV Land screwed that up big time with the Mother's Day tribute in the middle of the Brady Bunch marathon!

Yeah, I do agree, they screwed up with the marathon. But they should have done the best mom's episodes marathon from all shows or something like that.

Also too many eps were repeated. Why couldn't TV Land have run 96 different eps as it has in the past?

I noticed something minor but noticeable in "The Cincinnati Kids". I think it's the only ep in the series where the creative credits (producers, creator, writer, director) were not shown until after the first commercial. In all other eps that I can remember, those credits appeared right after the opening credits before the first commercial, but I guess that the scene in the house was too action-packed w/ no lulls in the story to show them, so they were run over the overhead shots of Kings' Island. Has anyone else ever noticed another ep w/ the credits run differently?

I agree a marathon shoudn't have repeats, there were enough episodes for a full 48 hr marathon without needing repeats. The Brady reunion was also a repeat from last year.

I watched it Saturday morning but that was mainly it. I would have liked them to show Pop Up Brady again like when they had the marathon for the 35th anniversary of the show last year.

I was particularly interested in the 3-part Grand Canyon episodes, since I had not seen all those together for a long time. If R.Reed was such a stickler for accuracy, I wonder if he ever made any of the following diatribes...

Since they decided to stop at the ghost town on the way to GC, and not proceed to a camp they had in mind [even though they should have been able to drive from LA area to GC in a single day], the eipsode does not indicate they stayed overnight in the ghost town (does it?).

The ghost town is too well-preserved to be from the age of stage coaches (pre-WWI), even though there is a coach there; and the Bradys are too dumb, having seen what a phony the prospector is (tales from a century before, when he is about 55-60), to all go into a jail cell because of one of his ridiculous tales.

When the Hopi Indians are doing the "rain dance" it appears to be a bright day, and Greg says the rain dance doesnt' work, "they just do it for the tourists," and then it's suddenly stormy and raining [looks like the same clouds and lightning from the intro in Gilligan's Island].

While it may not be totally unrealistic for a young Indian to try running away from home, the idea that because Mike Brady encouraged him to return to his grandfather and as a result the entire family becomes part of the tribe... don't think such would ever happen. Furthermore, ceremonial dancing usually has very deep meaning; too deep for the 'Brady freestyle' not to be considered a mockery or blasphemous. And since Jay Silverheels had a campaign to see that American Indians were portrayed with more respect in motion pictures, his doing this role doesn't figure; granted, he was a 'good guy,' but the portrayal of his small tribe is not realistic or really respectful, and some of his speech is still stereotyped, as in "Mr. Brady has 2 squaws?" and "you have large tribe". [Maybe, though, this was a step up from the 'old' westerns.]

This is my diatribe...
Alice really had a bum deal in this series of eps. She, like the kids, knew nothing about the trip until Mike and Carol came home with the trailer and told them; yet she was expected to come primarily to be their cook, and didn't complain. And they deliberately kept secret from her that they were going to ride to the bottom of the Canyon on mules; she didn't seem to have a choice to ride a mule train and be their cook. Whatever they say, she does; wherever they go, she goes. That goes a little too far. [I doubt if Reed said anything about that part, though; he also seemed to have a bit of snobbishness about him, saying Sam the butcher was too "low class" for a regular part in their show.]

Yeah.. there are somethings that I find kinda strange...

Like when Bobby was whistling to wake up Cindy, I don't know anyone who wakes up after a few whistles.. How did Gregg and Peter know that Bobby was gone if they were asleep? How did Mike, who is in the tent with Carol know that the boys were missing when he was asleep?

I do think it was unfair to Alice to not tell her that they were going to ride a mule.

On the last two times they had 48 hrs Marothon the Pilot has been always showing at night for some reason. But I enjoyed watching the marothon even though got them all on dvd because I would know what to watch if there was nothing on this weekend. Of course we all know this weekend is Andy Griffith.
