Default What's the scariest thing that has happened to you?

Whats the scariest thing that happen to you?

I remember one time in the early 70's my folks and there friends I knew the kids that they had also, we went camping they had a cabin, I still remember this after all these years,I must a beeen about 10 0r 9,and my friend was a little younger,One day we decided to go to this abandon house it was in the middle of the woods and the cabin had boarded windows. It stood in a clearing when we came through out of the woods, anyways we say the old cabain and aboutto go in and there was no one with us at the time but,we heard this awful moaning sound,it sounded like nothing I heard from this earth. Well after we heard that we ran like a rabbit back into our camp. And we never went back, I always wanted to go again after that, and this was day light just think if it was dark therewas no street lights or anything that was bright, and I know for afact till this day that me and my friend heard something that was scary.

I almost drowned in the Atlantic Ocean when we went to Daytona Beach. My
husband saw I was in trouble and came to help me. I can't swim but I love
the water.

One of my biggest fears is drowning. When I was about 7 or 8, my family went on vacation to Canada. We were in the hotel swimming pool. I went out too far and went under a few times. My parents saw what has happening the same time as the lifeguard. They rescued me, and I ended up catching a chill. A few days later, when we got home, I got sick. My dad still says that was one of HIS scariest moments, with one of his kids nearly drowning.

The other scariest moment in my life also includes water. It happened this past July when much of NE Ohio was flooded. What began as a simple drive home from the library ended up with me being caught in a flash flood with water up to the hubcaps!! It was dark then, too, so it was very hard to see. Long story short, both me and the car (I was the only one in the car) got home safely, but that was frightening. I had nightmares about it for several weeks afterwards. So you see why I have a fear of water.

There are two:

When I was in eleventh grade, I came 'this close' to being struck by lightning during a summer New Jersey thunderstorm. It was so close. I got literally knocked to the ground. I was pretty shook up for about an hour, but I was ok and uninjured.

When I was in Jump School at Ft. Benning, Georgia in June, 1975, my chute only opened partially on my third qualifying jump. To make matters worse, my reserve didn't deploy properly. At least the regular chute was partially opened, but I was obviously coming down at a greater rate of speed than the others. These types of malfunctions were not unknown to occur from time to time. It could have resulted in serious injury or death. I landed pretty hard on two points--the balls of my feet and my butt, and I was a bit sore, but walked away from it. But it was scary. I was still able to complete my training and graduate. Talk about an adrenaline rush!

There have been many unpleasant things in my life, but out of everything, when my grandfather died last year. He'll be gone a year on Monday. All I remember doing is sanding in the ICU with my grandmother and mom, aunts, uncles and cousins, and all of a sudden, he just slipped away. I just... it was so hard.

I had my drowning experience in the summer of 1994. Community swimming pool. I didn't, and don't, know how to swim. Well, Swimming pool + can't swim = Yeah....

Earlier that summer, I had pneumonia plus bacteremia (blood poisoning) at the same time. At least the swimming pool incident was over quickly....

Come to think of it, I had a LOT of really bad crap happen to me in 1994.

Community pools...*shudder* Back in the late '80s/early '90s, my mom signed my sister and I up for swim class at our nearby town pool, and I hated every second of it...especially having to dive off the huge diving board!! I told my mom all this not too long ago. She said if she'd known how I'd really felt back then she wouldn't have made me go. I guess I was too afraid at the time to say anything!!
