Borrowed storylines in the episode with the Givens kids (sp?) - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I was thinking when I was watching the episode with the Givens kids that the storyline was borrowed from Sanford and Son and The Andy Griffith Show. They did the Gong Show on Sanford and Son when Rodney was supposed to appear on the same episode as Fred, Bubba, and Rodney, and they borrowed the episode where Gomer pretended to have laryngitis so Barney would sing.

Just last night I was watching that particular episode of WH ("Going, Going, Gong") on my DVD set, and it's very peculiar/ironic in how that particular storyline of feigning ailments, etc., kinda "echoed", per se...
Rerun pretending to have sprained his ankle or whatever, so that the Givens Kids would perform well & win.
The episode with Fred, Bubba and Rodney on the Gong Show.
And the Gomer-with-fake-laryngitis episode of Andy Griffith.

Way too ironic and interesting, indeed...
