Smile Bringing Games Up to Date

By Tim Clodfelter (Winston-Salem Journal)

The board game Monopoly is getting a face-lift to bring it up-to-date for a new edition. Gone will be the railroads, replaced by airlines; rents will be higher;
and more modern tokens will take the place of the classic. The company is
soliciting suggestions at hasbro.com/monopoly for the new edition, which will be
in stores this fall.

So what changes might be made to other games to bring them into this century? Here are a few ideas we really hope the game companies don't take:
* Operation: A dice roll is now required before each round to see if the HMO
agrees to let the operation take place.
* Battleship: Greenpeace protest ships placed at random spots on the game
board.
* Pac-Man: Pac-Man gets taken off a fattening diet of power pills and blue
ghosts so he won't be so roly-poly.
* Stratego: Several months of U.N. resolutions required before play begins.
* Clue: Nonstop coverage of the continuing investigation by CNN, Fox News,
Court TV and, for some unfathomable reason, Entertainment Tonight.
* Chess: Outdated kings and queens replaced with elected officials.
* Pole Position: High gas prices lead to races no faster than 35 mph to
conserve fuel.
* Scrabble: Computer "emoticons" added to appeal to modern kids. :-)

*Sorry- You're no longer allowed to 'bump' your opponents back because in this overly PC society, apparently that promotes violence or bullying in schools, so instead every player is forced to "work together for a common goal", meaning...yet another AWESOME game is changed for the modern world and now totally SUCKS.

Thumbs down

Its disgusting what they did to board games but its no surprise!

The last GOOD version of CANDY LAND is the 1978 board.. The next one in 1984 is a piece of garbage and they just get worse and worse!!

The latest board is such a mess and confusing,I dont know how anyone plays it!!

When I get board games,I try to get 70s and older... (Before they started ruining things)
