Default Braces again??

Anyone knows a case of someone that had braces a while back and need them again? Well, now you do because it's my case.
I went for a dental cleaning today and told the doctor about some teeth that can use bonding on the lower half of my mouth and that I have a noisy jaw. Well, he cleans my teeth and tells me that I need to see an orthodontist to fix my bite(again) and open it because I grind my teeth and that he won't be able to bond my teeth because of that. I had braces in 1989! The big chunky metal ones, I'm now 31 years old and will feel like a freak with braces at my age.

I have a consult on the 23rd to see what the orthodontist say. This brings back so many bad memories of all the soup I had to eat and the headaches I suffered.

I don't think I could stand having braces again. So many bad and painful memories. I have a jaw that cracks a lot. It shows me not to complain to the dentist. I would rather have the jaw problems than braces.

I'm going to need them again...I have this $400 thing that I'm supposed to be wearing to fix my bite and I don't wear it because 1) I can't breathe with it in and 2) it hurts my jaw.

Remember, this is 2006. 1989 was 17 years ago. They have Invisalign (or however you spell it), invisible braces, so that's always an option.

My sister needed braces twice over a period of five years when we were kids. She had the 1st set of braces for two years, off for one, 2nd set for two more years. I had an aunt who needed braces when she was in her 30s (this was in the 1980s). When I started college in early 2004, I had an interpreter who was almost 60 and had braces. So it's not limited to just kids. Even people in their late 50's/60's have braces.

I read that the condition is called TMJ or Temporomandibular joint disorder. Apparently I can't open my mouth wide enough; he tells me that it can get worse too.

60 with braces? No way!
I would hope that this time around the Invisalign system could be used so I can smile even though when I had the chunky ones I didn't have a complex just hunger.

Ohhhh, Katie (she goes by Cashodeen here) is well-versed in that...Why don't you send her a PM?

My interpreter was 56 (almost 57) when I started working with her in '04, and had braces then. She needed them to correct a jaw problem she had, not because her teeth were crooked. I haven't seen her since last year, though...but I would think she had them taken off after the end of the last school year.

I told my denist about how my jaw was bothering me (especially when I play sports) and he just told me to wear a mouth guard when I play. I didn't really do anything. It seems like my denist can never really fix any problems.

That really sucks. As expensive as braces are you shouldn't have to get them twice. I'm in my 30's and have never had them but am seriously considering having my teeth straightened, if fact I have an ortho appt at the end of the month. But if there is no guarantee that the results will last I just might reconsider.

I need to get my lower teeth redone. It kind of pisses me off actually, because I had braces for 3 damn years, and then still went back crooked. And I'm vain. However, I do not have the insurance or the $$. So I just have to continue to hate myself for another few years.

That's my case. I will probably have a heart attack when the doctor gives me the estimate. Back then, dad paid almost $2,500.

I just recently got my braces off a couple of months ago, so stuff like this really freaks me out.

Next (when I get insurance again) I plan to get my teeth bonded, and possibly in the future I'm going to think about getting veneers. If I ended up needing braces again, I think...no, I know I would wind up having to kill somebody.

So, for the sake of the entire dental community, that better not happen...OR ELSE!

My parents paid about $3000 in 1990. I thought that was terrible. I'd hate to see what it is now!
