THE HOLLYWOOD PALACE was an early BIG BUDGET variety show, a huge show with tons of guests, i have gotten in 31 eps on 16 discs, quality 7-8 on some
some comedy, some music--- a great mix of legends like Liberace and Nat King Cole, mixed with newcomers like Mel Brooks and Rowan and Martin! and since I KNOW that people will ask DO U HAVE THE ONE WITH THIS GUEST? so here is a list of the 31 episodes that I have in Episode (1) HERB ALPERT hosts on (12/12/67 ) Guests: Liza Minnelli, The Baja Marimba Band, Sergio Mendes and Brazil 66, Burt Bacarach, jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery and singing songwriters Tommy Boyce and Tommy Hart. (2) ELIZABETH MONTGOMERY hosts (10/1/66 ABC) Guests: The Baja Marimba Band, Vic Damone, Paul Lynde & Jackie Mason (3) ARTHUR GODFREY hosts Guests: Shelley Berman, Dorothy Collins, The Mamas and The Papas (4) ARTHUR GODFREY hosts Guests , Sid Caesar, Abbe Lane and Corbett Monica., more (5) DONALD O’CONNOR hosts Guests: Buddy Greco, Mary Costa, Don Knotts, Shecky Green, Sergio Franke, Morgana King and Dorothy Provine. (8) JUDY GARLAND hosts (5/7/66) Guests: Van Johnson, Jack Carter, Johnny 'Secret Agent Man' Rivers, the Black Theatre of Prague, British comedy Pantomimist Charlie Cairoli and the Roselle Troupe, Columbian Acrobats. *** As a bonus, there is a rehearsal tape of Judy working out her 'What the World Needs Now' number from the May 7th program. It's fascinating to compare her rehearsal with her on-air performance. (9) BETTE DAVIS hosts Guests: Bert Lahr, Barrie Chase, Jan Murray, and Julius LaRosa. I remember really enjoying this show as a kid. Unlike Ed Sullivan, you had a different celebrity host each week.
Hmm, my Mom and Grandmom would probably really enjoy this, especially the episodes with Nat King Cole and Kate Smith. |

from some of the later variety shows was the QUALITY of the talent
a lot of variety shows in the 70s and 80s had 2nd rate or B list guests you know, the LOVE BOAT type BUT hollywood palace had a lot of true Legends guest host and it also gave early peeks at future legends like george carlin and mel brooks a great show! |
