Faces of Death?? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I was searching for some movies to watch a few weeks back, and came across this movie from 1972 I believe, called Faces of Death. Apparantely, it shows a bunch of real life shocking things that were caught on tape, that were just far too graphic to show on tv. Of course now with the internet and all, you can see that kind of crazy stuff and much more, but from what Iv'e read, for that time period, this movie was apparantely very shocking, and controversial. Has anyone here ever seen this movie?? What are your thoughts on it??

No, not when you factor in the internet. The internet has brought sleeze and gore to a whole new level. Reading about what some of the video had on it, there's no way the stuff can be shown on tv today even still, but the internet is a completely different story.

I'm not sure. I believe it was a straight to video kind of thing. Basically what it is from what Iv'e read, is videos of people getting killed, committing suicide, getting hit by trains, and just a bunch of morbid and crazy stuff like that. I was actually pretty surprised to see that a movie like that could be made in all honesty. That's some pretty freaky stuff!! I'm just kind of curious as to whether anyone here has seen it, and if it's really like the reviews Iv'e read.

OH WOW!!! That is pretty freaky! What is freakier is who would tape all of that!

Exactly!!! Iv'e never seen it, and don't plan to, but apparantely there are people who have. But you're right, from reading what people had to say about this series of movies, I was more than shocked at what I read.

The only thing I've seen like that was Faces of Death. I hate that sort of stuff. It is just pure evil to show.

Assuming this isn't specifially from 1972, did this include an opening with a short hard-rock version of "America the Beautiful" over television static, the bloody 1973 Indianapolis 500, a graphic description of the ingredients in hot dogs and an interview with a man getting his penis tattooed? If so, I may've seen it before, and never knew the title.

There are several "real life" death series that have been released. Faces of Death, Traces of Death, Death Scenes...

I remember Faces of Death was so big in the 1980's. You could never get it. It is hard to believe Blockbuster once carried this stuff. I think it is on DVD today. Probably no stores would carry this stuff today in the PC world we live in now.

In the 60's there were shock movies such as Africa Blood and Guts, Mondo Cane, Mondo Cane 2, Women of the World, Goodbye Uncle Tom, etc...

IMDB.com lists a Banned from Television series from the late 90's.

Oh yeah, it was actually the faces of death movies that I was referring to. I got it confused with that Banned From tv one. Anyway, I did a little research on the F.O.D. series, and apparantely alot of what was in it is actually fake, or reenactments. There's even a DVD that came out in 1999 called Faces of Death / Fact or Fiction, which exposed this.

I rented faces of death once, years ago. I believe it was number 4 or 5, once scene had this guy from the middle east getting his foot cut off for stealing.

Ahhh, i see you checked and found out the name of the tape. It sounded like faces of death to me. Now that we know what it is, those tapes were gruesome. I mean, they made me actually feel sick to my stomach.

Now, i heard that some of those things were staged. I don't know which ones or if it's true...however, there was one that made me think, "Now who would happen to have a video camera for this day"...there was a guy who was getting brake parts at a junkyard and it just so happened the car fell on his leg. It appeared very real. very gross. but, what the heck was someone doing with a videocamera at the junkyard??? it reminds me of those America's Funniest Videos where someone just "happens to videotaping someone cutting down a tree

" someone just happens to be videotaping two guys working on a roof when one of them falls off the ladder...I mean, I don't go around taping such nonsense...anyone else feel like that?
