What i mean is who was Uncle Leo in reference to Jerry? Was he his father's brother or his mother's brother? I don't think they ever made that clear in the series.

Uncle Leo was Helen Seinfeld's brother. This was mentioned in "The Kiss Hello".

Yes , Uncle Leo was related to Jerrys mother.. They mentioned that in a couple eppys including the one where I guess Leo owed Helen money from way back and Jerry wanted to know if his mother remembered this..LOL .. Morty wanted Leo to pay it all back plus interest
